hi

i noticed an older thread about wild camping in scotland, would it be ok to start another discussion here or is there a better place to do it? just dont want to breacch any rules or annoy anyone :)

There are a number of places in Scotland where wildcamping is not allowed. Local byelaws and all that.
These have had to be enforced because of inconsiderate campers.

For the most part wildcamping is allowed but I would most seriously suggest that you do so with consideration of others.
IE, keep a low profile, take away nothing but good memories and leave nothing but footprints.

Loch Lomond is one area where some exclusions have been put in place on the East side of the Loch, with no wild camping allowed.
There is however a site at Sallochy Bay which is as near wild camping on that side of the Loch that you will get, no showers and composting loo etc..

As has been said there is generally no issues wild camping in Scotland. Just google wild camping in Scotland for all the info.

hi

ok thanks for the messages now i can get fully what i'd like to know and hopefully learn from other people's experiences. ive been wild camping before , never leave mess etc but thanks for the comment.

I've got a couple of friends who hopefully i will go camping with at some point this year. as there are usually time limits on noise at campsites i thought it might be safer and more courteous to those trying tn enjoy a campsite to avoid them when going with friends and go wild camping instead. ive been to bridge of orchy a few times and also glen etice, great places for wild camping. however looking for alternative suggestions. one of my friends seems to come out in big lumps when the midges get hold of her so not idea to go west.

can anyone suggest any places on the east or less midge ridden areas please?

my other friend isnt fussed about midges so would be looking for inspiration for other areas i might not have thought about. we'd be travelling from grangemouth so possibly 2-3 hour travelling max.

i'd thought of st. mary's loch for wild camping but havent checked it out to see if this is feasiable yet, anyone got any experience of that area? it looks beautiful and would like to spend more time there.

thanks for your comments, i'll have a look at sallochy too. hopefully will do a mixture of wild camping and campsites this year but just trying to get some potential locations together now for when we're able to go. thanks again :)
