You could maybe take a look at ex-military sleeping bags (some are unused). Some are quite large as they are designed for military personel to use them with all their kit on..Lots of them on Ebay.
Snugpak also do some sleeping bags with an extra panel with zip to increase the width, they also do military sleeping bags..
There are a lot of big lads in the forces so think you should be able to get something.

An army 90 pattern bag size L would do you but it isn't small or lightweight. I have one but only for car camping. It takes up most of a 65 litre pack.

Try a quilt from Cumulus in Poland. I use a Quilt 250 down to about -4C.
You can't (or couldn't) buy directly because they have a UK distributor whose name escapes me at the moment, but who had a very limited range and inflated prices. They told me in May 15 that they had plans to ship directly to UK when the distribution agreement expired.
I bought mine from trekking-lite-store.com in Germany who took about 4 days to deliver(free) by DHL and at the same price as Cumulus. It weighs 480g and will pack down to under 3 litres. Thoroughly recommended.
Outdoorline.sk is another possible supplier.

Try looking at anglers sleeping bags. Most sleeping bags designed for night time carp anglers have to be lightweight and pack down small so they can easily be carried across fields on foot. Most are very warm (3-4 season) and not too expensive.
A few at Fishtec (link won't work but type Fishtec into address bar)
My wife uses a cyprinus frostline carp fishing bag. It is very roomy and suitable to about -5.
It also compresses quite small.
She hates restrictive sleeping bags and is a cold sleeper. That bag swamps her.

The OP asked for lightweight. These fishing bags seem to be 3Kg plus. Not what I would call lightweight. I would be starting to worry if my "big 3" came to that sort of weight.

Trouble is that it is hard to find an xl bag that compresses down to a decent size and is lightweight unless you go for down filling. Then you are talking silly money.
My lightweight bag is a cheapy snugpak which goes down small. With a fleece liner it handles a UK winter but even I find it restrictive at the shoulders and I'm not broad..

Thanks guys
I've just seen the new sleep system from thermarest and as I have 1 of there s/I beds then I think I'll go for the quilt which although expensive over here is half the price in the USA so that's the plan
Thanks
sichef1504 I dont know if it will help you have a nose at a thread i started HERE like you i'm tight on space (but not weight as i ride a motorbike) but some of the suggestions in there may or may not help you in your search.

I'd go for one of the modern, lightweight quilts. I have a Thermarest quilt (synthetic fill) in the large size. It weighs 1.4 kg, I can squash it down to a very reasonable size with a compression sack and, being synthetic fill, it doesn't matter if it gets a bit damp. It is the softest, warmest thing I've ever wrapped round me, with freedom to flick it off at will or stick my legs out when it gets too warm, love it. I'll never go back to a sleeping bag.
On the other hand, I use a Cumulus down quilt, which weighs 450 gm and is very little more expensive than the Thermarest. It will pack down into a 1 litre dry bag, but I don't like to compress it that much.
