My son has decided to go backpacking in Australia for 6 months does anyone have any suggestions for a good backpacking tent as I'm sure that he won't be taking my large heavy frame tent with him?
Wild country Zephyros is a popular choice for a backpacking tent. I personally use a Vango banshee as I have had them both but favour the Vango much more. It all comes down to what he needs from the tent, ie space, weight, ease of erection ect.
I like Coleman stuff. We've got Phads which they don't make any more. The replacement is the Tatra. If he wants to go smaller and lighter have a look at the Aravis.
Have a look at the Coleman Novae X2 . Weight 2Kg.
It Is a 2 person tent lots of room , I've had this tent for backpacking for the last 5 years .
Never let me down cost £80.
Also the Zephyros 1 Lite .
Well made good quality. This Is a very lightweight tent and packs down very small
Backpacking and living in a tent for 6 months brings about a different set of requirements I would say.
I would think sit up height would be a must and a bit of a porch for making a brew or heating food, it not all sunshine in Australia depending where you go, so might not be able to cook/make a brew outdoors all the time.
Sometimes a tent weighing a bit more than a typical lighweight tent is a penalty worth paying if it meets your needs for long term backpacking.
I would advise googling Australian backpacking forums and see what others use and what they recommend that will stand up to 6 months in the extremes of weather you can get there, also one that meets the day to day requirements.
