We went last year and really enjoyed it, we used Beaper Farm as a base, nice site can recommend it,our highlight was visiting Osborne House.

Its cheaper to use the sun £1 camping deals and not even go to the site !! I found a loop hole on the vehicles you can use in the offer and it allowed us to take my old works van as part of the deal with no extra to pay.
Its worth looking into as an option for the ferry even if you never show up at the site they expect you to use.
