Just returned from a glorious trip at the Lakes, and I could not believe my luck with the weather with not a drop of rain throughout my stay!

Site report already submitted and published.

Eskdale C&CC is a lovely site, and I would definitely return in future.

However, it is a long way away, and my journey from home to the overnight stop near Preston took nearly 8 hours, thanks to M6 being closed in 2 places, and I got lost trying to follow the diversion signs twice, DOH!!!

Compounded by the dog not being well (don't ask as it was not nice ), it was not a journey I would like to repeat too soon.

Return journey from the site to home took just over 8.5h with 3 pit stops. Considering the journey from the overnight stop to the site took over 2.5h, I did it in good time, especially for a Friday!

We did some walking, and took the steam train from Dalegarth (just up the road from the camp site) to Ravenglass and back.

Borda was nervous at first due to the noise, however, he was eager to get back onto the train for the return journey.

Dog training went well, and I shall continue to work on him with what I have learnt about doggie behaviours. He is a smart boy and is eager to please, which makes it easier for us both.

I made the mistake trying to cross the Hardknott Pass and rolled into a ditch at the base before the steep accent. Good job too as I hate to think what would happen if I got stuck higher up!

Miraculously, the car does not appeared to be damaged, so something up there was looking after us for certain!

Here are a few pics for a lovely trip.

First walk of the trip near the camp site:

A quick walk at Brockhole the Lake District Visitor Centre overlooking Windermere:

Borda on the steam train to Ravenglass:

A selfie with the dog on the train to Ravenglass:

Return train journey (not a good photo, however, he looked very cute in the pic):

Another pic of the return journey:

Last walk of the trip near a church at Boot not far from the camp site:

Eskdale camp site:

A robin came and visited us every day:

Camping in the moonlight (it was Mid Autumn Festival and a full moon, however, I did not celebrate):

Glorious morning:

Another view of the camp site in the morning:

My set up, no tarp as I requested for a shady pitch and got it:

The last night was cloudy with not as much condensation on the tent in the morning, resulted in a dry pack up.

It was a trip to remember for certain as it was quite eventful.

We had a lovely stay here in July (report was submitted) and also had morning visits from the robin - into the tent at one point. DH loves the pass (its like a white knuckle ride for me).

The site and area look lovely. On my 'to do' list for next year (in fact have been meaning to go for the past 3 years !), hope i am as lucky with the weather. You answered something i was going to find out..that dogs are allowed on the railway, thank you. Planning an overnight stop en-route, probably Wolverley (north of Kidderminster)

Pleased you had such a good week and Borda's training went well. Sorry to hear about the misshap with the car and the journey sounds as if it was pretty painful. I checked Bing Map for the route and it sent you along Hardknott Pass but then checking the C+CC book it says not to go that way, so after your misshap...definitely lesson learnt.

Thanks for posting the pictures and review.

I was hoping to cross Hardknott Pass as a short cut after visiting Brockhole and got stuck in my car.

A couple crossed it in their small van towing a trailer en-route to the site!!! However, the lady said they were not going to go back that way.

I wish Google Map and other GPS sat nav providers would stop taking peeps over the pass as a normal route, as it is anything but normal!

The boat/ferry ride that stops at Brockhole and other places allows dogs too, as does the Ullswater Steamers.

The Ullswater Steamers and the Ravenglass-Eskdale Steam Railway belong to the same company I believe, and I was offered a discount for the former when I bought my train ticket.

Great photos, site looks good. We love the Lake District but haven't stayed at that site..one for the list.

p.s. I thought I was looking at our Border in photo 1..

We had that same pitch (or almost) when we were there in Whitsun 2010. It was a lot busier then and we had the Derrick Bird rampage.

It is a great location but you do need to stock up well with food as the trip to Booths in Windermere is quite a trek!

The shop on site is quite well-stocked for essential basics, however, I concur with regard to stock up well before arriving on site.

I usually take all provisions with me as I do not like to go hunting for food after setting up.

You rolled your car!!!!! OMG how did you get it out of the ditch? Our only problem when we went across Hardknott was having to stop because little one felt sick.

Glad you had a good holiday despite the problems
