We've just returned from a lovely 11 nights at Treloan Campsite, near Portscatho (review left).
We left home early on Friday morning, prepared for a long day ahead. The drive was broke up with a stop for breakfast at Ashby-de-la-Zouch and then to stretch our legs and have snack at Killerton in Exeter. It was a good breakfast and by the time we got to Killerton the sun was shining. Another couple of hours in the car with C sleeping most of it and we arrived at Treloan. Great first impressions, friendly owners, sunshine and a view of the gorgeous sea.
After pitching the tent, struggled a little with the new extension but loved it once up, we had a little explore. Beautiful view from the bottom of the site, right on the South West Coastal path.
The next morning we were up up early to beautiful sunshine and off on a walk by 9am. We walked up to St Anthony's head and then around to Place where we got the ferry to St Mawes and after a browse and an ice-cream the bus back to Gerrans, about a 5 minute walk to the campsite.

When in St Mawes I bought us 3 day passes for the local transport - ferries and buses, turned out not to be that great of a buy, I don't think we really saved any money. The ferry timings made it a bit awkward to connect journeys and due to bad weather (more on that!) they were cancelled one day.
Day 2, weather not so great, slightly overcast, windy and drizzly. We got the 10.20 bus to St Mawes and then a ferry over to Falmouth, bit chilly on the top deck! We bought a one day attraction pass in the tourist information at the Prince of Wales Quay - good value. We then walked along to the Maritime Museum, which was interesting in parts although to be honest my feet were a bit achey from the day before so I wasn't feeling it much, C enjoyed it. After a couple of hours we went and got some fish and chips and sat near the Custom House Quay to eat them, although it was still a bit breezy. We debated our plan for the rest of the day, return to museum/walk along to Pendennis Castle/ferry back to St Mawes and visit the castle there. We decided to head back to St Mawes, stopping to look in a few shops and buy some fudge on the way back to the PW quay. That turned out to be a good decision, by the time we got back to St Mawes the sun was shining and we had a lovely time looking round the castle there, the audio guide was really good and kept C interested.

Day 3, weather even worse on waking, had planned a walk along to Portscatho, bus to St Mawes and ferry along to Trelissick. However we ended up lazing around most of the morning, driving to St Mawes, discovering the ferries were cancelled, having a pasty, driving to the King Harry ferry which was still running and getting that across to Trelissick instead. Enjoyed Trelissick and were grateful for the loan of a brolly!
After a walk around we went to the cafe for a cake and making use of the free wifi I checked the weather. BBC were telling me the there was a local weather warning, winds had increased from 20mph when we left the campsite to 45mph and were going to continue overnight, (that explained why the ferries had been cancelled) I spent the drive back to the campsite worrying about the tent.
On arriving back to Treloan in strong wind and rain one of our poles obviously hadn't been pegged down very well and was loose and the whole tent was swaying in the wind, I pegged it back in but it didn't make much of a difference, the site owner quickly appeared and very kindly offered us use of a static caravan for the night. We very quickly got everything out of the tent into the car, laid the tent flat and weighed it down with some crates with help from the owners and then very wet and cold headed for the caravan.
The next day we didn't even venture out of the caravan until about lunchtime, I was dreading inspecting the tent and feeling very disheartened. I felt anxious about the next trip we have planned (Scotland), I was enviously eyeing up the inflatable tent that had held up very well and standing in very specific spot where I could get a phone signal to google how much they cost! As well as mentally kicking myself for not bringing spare poles.
Thankfully there was only minor damage, one of the tent poles had split at the section that goes onto the pin which I patched with borrowed electrical tape (add to list for next time) reinforced with tent pegs. we took off the crates and drained the puddles from our tent and left it to dry. Later on when the wind had settled more we put the tent back up (not the extension, we didn't have enough pegs that had survived, plus it still seemed a bit risky), emptied the puddles from the inside of the tent and moved our belongings back in.
By then the sun was out so we walked along to Portscatho, down to the beach and then had fish and chips from the visiting van for tea.
Day 5 - our tent survived the night and the weather was looking good. I was feeling happier. We spent most of the day on the beach in Portscatho, had some lovely cake from the hidden hut. Beautiful evening, love camping.
Day 6 - Tent still standing. Had a bus trip into Truro today, spent the day mostly browsing the shops and eating. Bought some new tent pegs for the extension and a fleece (my wardrobe is woefully lacking in appropriate outdoor clothing, my solution until this point has just been to layer on most of my clothes on an evening). Resurected the extension when we returned,some damage to the seam where the clip that attaches it to the tent is, meaning only one clip on that side but that didn't cause any issues.

Day 7, more lovely sunshine. Eden Project, not a cheap day out even with a 2 for 1 voucher, especially as I was caught off guard and bought a guidebook for £6!! But it was very enjoyable and I left feeling inspired to start my own garden project.

Day 8, we should have been going home today but given the lovely weather we decided to stay another few nights. Today C spent the morning playing with her friends and and then we had a nice walk around St Just and visited the pretty church there.

Day 9 Back to the lovely beach in lovely Portscatho today, more cake from the Hidden hut and a bbq for tea. The site is quieter and C's friends have left.

Day 10 Last day, we decided on another trip to Falmouth today, C couldn't possibly go home without buying more fudge apparently! We spent a couple of hours wandering round including a visit to the art gallery that had a good exhibition for children on, we finally had a scone with jam and clotted cream then caught the ferry back to St Mawes. We had tea in Portscatho and a fairly early night.

Another good journey home, we were very luck with our drives not to hit any real traffic and made good times both ways. 978 miles driven in total during this trip.
This the furthest I've driven and the longest we've camped, and although we had a bit of a wobble with the wind it has really given me the confidence to try Europe next year.

For next time things to do/take
1. check the weather
2. fix tent pole and consider getting spares
3. more warm clothes including gloves and scarf
4. firelighters
5. sort out tent pegs, the ones that came with the tent are nearly all bent now, I like the ones we bought at Aldi like these they didn't bend or come out even though the ground wasn't hard. Not keen on the ones we got in Truro like these they're really awkward to pull out, although I suppose thats kind of the point
6. butter dish
7. find a video of the best way to put the extension up
8. slip on shoes for C e.g. crocs
