Some of the female members of the Deid Squirrel Gang have just had a fabulous weekend camping at Ace Hideaways near Forres in north east Scotland.
We were looking for somewhere in the area which allowed campfires and came across this fairly new site which turned out to be everything we love about camping.
Ace Hideaways is part of Ace Adventures, a white water rafting and outdoor activity place. There are a few tent pitches in a small area of woodland with a campers' kitchen, showers and compost toilets. You can camp year round in your own tent but some of the facilities are limited in the winter months apparently.

There's also a lovely shepherd's hut:
The campers' kitchen and showers. This is an excellent covered area with a long bench, hot water, gas cooker, barbecues and even saws for cutting up firewood.
Mmm... pancakes, crispy bacon and maple syrup for breakfast.
The Biz making her special scrambled eggs.
A wee birthday celebration.

The Biz has come prepared with her axe as well:
The woods were so beautiful that we left our barrow of firewood and went for a wander:

We wandered down to the nearby River Findhorn:

What an excellent weekend we had
This campsite has been a tremendous find for those of us who enjoy sites which are as close to wild camping as possible .

It was such good fun, fires, tarps , good food cooked over the fire and in the camp kitchen ( what a luxury that was, why don't more sites have them ??) ........and as an extra bonus, an all girl group so no fear of methane poisoning ...if you see what I mean

We spoke to the manager about a group going and he seemed quite confident that we could be accommodated, its not the number of people, as he says they have had up to 60 people stayin, its the small number and small size of the pitches.
The Nutters would love it Billy, there's loads to do in the surrounding area, riverside walks etc but the business is primarily an adventure company, running white water rafting, gorge walking and on site they have disc golf which looks like great fun and I noticed today that they have fly fishing. I even managed a bit of retail therapy on the way home , how girlie of me

Great foties....and an excellent trip report....I'm going to that site in the near future (Well maybe next year when the weather warms up) with or without you lot(your choice) there I shall indulge myself in all activities on offer...Or perhaps just chill by the fire all day.....All I know is....I need to be there....
