I now see why you were keen to learn how to post pics to the forum. Superb photos and trip report Greg. The Scots are blessed with such beautiful scenery. So glad you had a great time. Im guessing you are glad you went for a larger motorhome? A friend of ours has a smaller one, and I have to say I found it just too small to spend any amount of time in, with some form of comfort. Choosing the right tent is hard enough, but choosing an expensive MH must take a lot of research. My next door neighbour used to tow his caravan and used that a lot to get away.He got rid of that and brought a small MH as getting the caravan on his drive became a pain (inconsiderate parking by some neighbours) He has had it 18months and I think I have seen him go away 3 times. when I spoke to him why? He told me he hated it as it was too small inside, and wished he had updated his touring caravan instead. At £27K an expensive mistake to make. He has tried selling it but people keep offering him silly money for it. So it sits on his drive going to waste. We all have our different ways to "camp" and how we get our enjoyment from it. I would just say to anyone who wants to buy a tent, MH, tourer, van conversion or static, is do your homework 1st, and get whats right for you.
Firstly ,thanks for the comments.
You are so right about the choosing wisely and the costly mistakes.
I had to forego the canvas some years ago for all the boring reasons.
Used to camp in the Brecons in winter at Ystradfellte, take my old Triumph Speed Twin to Devon or Cornwall and camp in the corner of farmers fields.
So did I give up the hobby I loved or take a different approach?.
So went for a van ,and after many years settled with what we have now.
Actually the van we have now is slightly smaller than our last one, but again it was a question of our needs. I have problems with my spine and the last motorhome ,middle picture in my profile was brilliant ,but dropping down from the fixed double bed over the garage caused a lot of pain.
So we went for the floor level fixed bed.I hate feeling tired and having to make up a bed, also waking the misses in the morning as I am always awake by 5 and out walking. She can sleep away with no disturbance.
Hope he doesn't see this but a mate of mine (long time motorhomer) bought a smaller van last year brand new, he now regrets not going bigger.
Am including picture of our first van together ,went all over Europe in it and had so much fun.
How you learn to work together to use such a small space.
Starting that way, what we have now is absolute luxury.
My wife painted the three feathers in the window which I still have now.
Thanks again Geoff, and a very valid point about doing your homework before committing big money.
.

Regards,
Greg

Great report Greg, I love the van too.
We must make the effort to get up to Scotland, it is a long way for us, but my real worry is the missus. She might get all Scottish with me and start talking funny again, then there is her problem with single malt and Haggis, it is a real issue for a Westcountry Englishman like me. She moved down when she was 10, she is si, errrr, I mean over fifty now!
I am glad the cat enjoyed the trip Greg, and although you admit not being a cat lover, neither am I, but what a lovely pair of fur lined Y fronts it will make! Think on the bright side mate.
Speak soon.
Regards.
Mike

Should have said, cannot wait to see the van Greg and those three feathers look stunning.
The Devon flag is a Dartmoor sheep stood on Haytor wearing a pair of wellies, perhaps your wife could do a Devon flag for me if I ask nicely.
😀👍

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the comments we really did have a good time in Scotland.
The three feathers drew a lot of comments in the old VW,
especially abroad.
Sadly I don't have the old VW (the only van the wife bawled her eyes out when it went) any more but the feathers were painted on a board and still have them.Been thinking of having them made into a decal to put on the present van.
My wife used to paint slate house signs at one time, she is very talented.
As regards the furry Y fronts, sorry cat, it doesn't really bother me when we are away.Seems to sleep a lot.
As I said we didn't have time to organise a cattery but it starves itself anyway if it's put in one.
We do get some funny looks though. I can put up with that if it gets us away though.
As I said ,we will definitely go back up to Scotland this year, but with a bit more planning.
Regards,
Greg

Hi Greg, nice report and photos, thats our Sorento!
We now have a blue Santa Fe-same van though!
Keep meaning to do a blog as we have done two trips to Australia including time in rented motorhomes, trouble is too many photos.
My wife writes a diary so we have the references!
I'll suggest she does it!

Thanks Dave,
We will definitely be back to Hereford CC&C site and not just as a one night stop.
Perhaps we will see you there again.

Greg

Glad you enjoyed your trip - been to most of your sites (not the CC ones) and hopefully you can get further north / east / west / south west another time.
BTW the day ticket for Edinburgh buses, hop on & off as much as you like, is £4. If you return, that's problably better value than the site minibus. The Travellinescotland app shows you the bus stops, bus times, bus routes, so you can explore the city with confidence.
------------- 2025=3 sites, 5 nights; 2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

We will be coming back up later this year.
Thanks for the tip with the buses as we are planning on going back to Edinburgh.

My Dad was Edinburgh born and bred and I found out at an early age just how brilliant the bus service was and still is. If only other UK cities could do as well.
If you've not been on a tour of "underground" Auld Reekie and you're not claustrophobic, go on one, though I think that they're a bit more touristy than the one I went on under the City Chambers back in the 80s - try a history one, rather than a touristy one. There's one close, now sealed off because it's too dangerous that my Dad, working as a apprentice just after WW1 (he was born 1908 and started work at age 12) just up from John Knox' house and they knocked down a wall and found the steps of a close with some old "graffiti". The downside was that the steps stopped in a gaping hole which they reckoned dropped down to cess pit that was the former Loch where Princes Street Gardens are now!!!
