I'm a devil for leaving things on standby I'm afraid, I've got little red and green lights everywhere, but I try to balance that by actively managing my heating.
I have electric storage radiators, one I never use, one I rarely use, one (in the hall) almost heats the whole bungalow anyway and the one in the living room is much newer and easily adjusted, so I use that one to control the temperature overall. The only problem is that I have to decide 24 hours in advance what the setting needs to be to provide the right heat for the next day.
I suppose that as a lifelong camper it's good that I can live by the adage; "There's no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothing."
