I've just read that it may sound like another person has died through what maybe carbon monoxide poisioning.
Until late last year, I didn't realise having BBQ/cooking in a tent- awning etc can cause this, even though I would never do this anyway.
It would be good if the people who run this site could put the dangers of this under everyone's comments, in the tent,tt and caravan section.
Maybe if everyone commented on this it might get read by the people who run this.
And might just save someone's life.........

Yeah I've seen them on here but I'm just wondering if there can be something on the bottom of each post warning people.
I didn't know about this until I read about it on a toilet door.

Does this apply to when cooking in a fc, have to have widows open etc for air?

MrT,

You could argue that cooking in a van is more dangerous if the doors are closed and cupboards are full with stuff, blocking the vents. Or that using a gas cooker at home is going to kill you if you have a modern house, with no draughts.

As others have said on the other posts, its all about being cautious.
At the moment we don't know if it was CO poisoning, drinks or drugs, or some other illness that they all picked up so can not speculate.

Cooking by gas is different though as once you distinguish the flame no gases are released whereas with barbecue coals they still give of fumes well after the cooking has finished. It's these fumes called carbon monoxide which we can't see is released into the atmosphere so if the barbecue is kept in a confined space such as a tent or awning then the effects can be catastrophic because the poisoning effect affects the muscles which leads to being paralysed so you can't move or even cry for help. They call it the silent killer for more reasons than one.
