How about a separate members diary/calender that we can refer to? similar to the Events/ Meets section. I would like to go away to meet members and put on details of my own trips but find that the getting together section is basically all talk and little camping. Thank you

A few years ago, I tried to arrange meets for solo campers and I know a couple of other people did too, but they tend not to take off for some reason. People say they want to go but pull out at the last minute or simply don't turn up.

There has been in the past some successful family meets in various parts of the country but they seem thin on the ground these days...or perhaps they have become more private. Strangely, people living up north seem to be more successful with meets than us unsociable southerners.

One of the problems with meets is that when an original group is formed they tend to stick together so subsequent meets comprise of a group of original friends and a separate group of newbies, or individuals feeling as if they don't really fit in anywhere. I know of one northern group which became so big that it imploded for that very reason...the originals eventually wanted to arrange their own meets separate from the crowd and it all just fizzled out...or again, becomes a private meet.

thanks for that, Bob.Some time ago I became aware of a group who seemed to enjoy themselves and was intending to ask for an invite. But now I am ready to roll in my Fiat Doblo it seems I`ll be going on my own. I wonder if the camping and caravan club would be worth joining. Might give them a try. thanks once again.

I can confirm that this happens and plead guilty.

I would have though a forum entitled "Meeting up and getting together" was already the ideal place for kicking this off? Opening a new forum and calling it "Arranging Meetings but no chit chat" is a little pointless.

Start your threads, and arrange your meets. If it don't happen, that's because folk aren't interested, not because it's in "the wrong forum".

Go for it... and good luck.

Have a look at the Camping and Caravanning Club's Temporary Holiday Sites - there's usually no need to book in advance (except for EHU where available), so little formality other than C&CC membership (which could be taken out on arrival).

Another possibility is to find a Club specific to your interests, or unit type etc - see the Association of Camping and Caravanning Exempted Organisation's list.

Or, as suggested, simply post your intended destination on here - though be prepared for the reluctance of many campers to commit to particular dates and sites, after all, it's all about (imho) going where you want when you want (or can!).

My own experiences as an event organiser, camping or otherwise, taught me a few things:

* No single event is going to please everyone
* There are far more talkers than doers
* People drop off like flies as soon as money is mentioned

I only organise events that I would gladly attend on my own if no one else joins me (I like my own company), and would never cough up to pay for booking fees/tickets in advance for anyone else.

If I were to organise a camping trip or other events such as a meal out, I would decide on the site and date, then post it up in the Meet up section, and invites others to join me. They would have to book for themselves.

I do not believe we need another separate meet up section.

I prefer spending time on my own with the dog when I go camping to do as I please, hence I seldom participate in camping rallies anymore.
