Is there a section to review caravan makes and models?

I did suggest sections for various popular makes as well as misc. but nothing came of it.

Caravan reviews would serve no useful purpose. There are no 'good' or 'bad' makes & choice of layout is up to individual. Clearly there are(mostly)'good' &(some)'bad' examples of any make.

If a buyer is unlucky enough to buy a new caravan with faults then probably he will(unfairly)come to regard that make of caravan as 'bad' & probably vow never to buy another of that make.

Equally this could apply to older caravans. One may buy a 10yr old caravan of any make in perfect condition because it has been correctly serviced/maintained & give a good review praising the longevity of this make but another poorly maintained example of same caravan could be riddled with damp & get a bad review.

Hence no useful information could be gained from caravan reviews... I agree it sounds a good idea but deconstruct it & it really isn't.

If you start from the premise that all new vans are s**te you will save yourself a lot of disappointment and is the reason you don't need a forum on it as everyone already knows that

Sorry, Opensauce, I disagree. Forget the build quality abd reliability issue, it would be useful to get owners' opinions on what it's actually like to spend time in! Things like how comfortable and hard wearing the seating is, what the kitchen and bathroom layouts are actually like in use, day after day, how much can you get in the lockers, and how easy access to them is, are there any awkward corners you can't get at, how easy is it to make up the beds (if not fixed), how much can you get in the under-bed storage, etc. In other words, what's it like to spend any length of time in the caravan, in different weather conditions and on a variety of types of pitch? You can't get any of this from reading manufacturers' brochures, Caravan Club magazine reviews, or visiting dealers.

I think a review section would be most useful to most members and anyone would surely realise that just because one person praises or slates something don't mean its fact. However most new caravans are rubbish

You have in fact made the argument as to why reviews would serve no useful purpose. If you cannot believe the review as you suggest, what is the point of the review?

There's no point in reviewing the layout as that is personal choice. The build quality is inconsistent & quality control is poor, so some caravans are 'rubbish' as you suggest. Due to this, as you also allude to there would be separate reviews praising & slating the same caravan rendering the reviews inconclusive.

What about creating a review section and as with all forums only the people who are interested in that subject will read it

Ok Opensauce, you won't use it, we get that, but that doesn't mean it's not a good idea and won't be used by lots of others.
Other caravan websites have sections for makes and they are much subscribed and used

Got to agree with you on this.
There are many of the same model van out there, in which people have altered to suit there needs. that being shared may be helpful to others.

One can only really review a new or fairly new caravan which generally are not modified by their owners as this would devalue them.

You can't really 'review' anything say, 15yrs old, ie something that might be modified or customised. You are better just posting in the repairs forum either asking advice from anybody who has a similar caravan or posting up hints & tips.

One needs to be clear what a review is. Reviews would need to take the form of lists of all popular makes & models of new caravans presumably with a separate forum for each make & reviews being left for each one? For reasons already stated, imho those reviews would be of little value.

If you had make specific forums with hints & tips being posted up & advice asked about those specific makes then they would not be reviews per se.

I can't see that happening, ukcs has enough forums already & the repairs forum does that job already, I would have thought?
