what do the red and green pins indicate when you do a map search?

I think that 'Featured Sites' are green and others are red. I don't know how featured sites are selected though.

"Green icons indicate Featured Sites which have full details and photos etc" (as it says on every map search page!    I know a lot of users miss it).

Correct ! As mentioned above, it just indicates that they have added full details and have uploaded photos to their listing etc
