I would like to be able to save sites that do not meet my criteria, such as no provision of a single person discount, so that I do not waste time making the same enquiry at a later date please.

Similar to the Virtual Brochure but for sites that I do not wish to visit for whatever reason(s).

Thanks in advance.

Do many sites offer a single person discount? I wouldn't have thought many did as a single person is still occupying a pitch. I can still remember when sites charged per pitch regardless of how many occupied it.

There are always two of us so I would have any need as such.

I thought about that, however, it will be clogged up with sites I do not wish to use!

Some do, a lot don't.

Whenever I see pricing for a pitch is based on 2 adults, I would always ask if they would offer a single person discount, especially the pitch price is nearly 30 GBP a night or more on an adult only site!

It is worth it even if it is just a small discount, on the basis that I only use half the amount of water.

I may have to grin and bear it, as I would probably only use adult only sites if I were to have a trip out during the school holidays in August.

Must admit I'm surprised that any do really, especially since hotels often charge single people extra, on the basis that they could have let it to a couple. I don't blame anyone for asking though, I might well do the same if I was camping on my own.

I would never pay £30 a night in any case. We usually look for under £20 but will go up to about £25 if it's somewhere we really want to visit.

We never go anywhere in August. First of all it's usually too busy and too expensive, and secondly I volunteer on a Heritage Railway and that is our busiest month. I know I'm a volunteer so I don't have to, but it's usually good fun and I enjoy it. The weather is often better in September, or at least more settled, and it's usually cheaper.

I avoided camping in August when I was a tenter, and went to a small independent adult only site last August that had a secured field for Bean to run around.

They offered a small single person discount too.

I liked my stay, hence I would do it again as in staying at an adult only site.

All booked up until October 2022, and I have more or less decided where to go in 2023, just can't book the sites yet as it is still too early apparently!

It seems we work in a completely different way DK. We haven't even begun to think about where we are going this year, let alone next. I must admit we are both retired which does change things, but we rarely book anything more than a couple of weeks ahead, and often only a few days. For us that is one of the attractions of caravanning, unlike when we used to fly abroad which meant we had to plan months ahead to get the best prices where we wanted to go. These days we often only have the vaguest of ideas when we want to go, and where and when often depends on the weather.

We have never had a problem getting on a site, even when we have booked only days before. That applies to the last two years too. However, we always try to arrive on a Monday, after all the weekenders have left. I have often found that if you look to book starting Friday or Saturday, the site will show as "fully booked", but book Monday instead and it's half-empty. The site in the New Forest that we went on last July showed as "fully booked" on the Saturday, but when we turned up on the Monday there was hardly anyone there apart from several empty seasonal caravans that filled up over our middle weekend.

The last site we went on last September was adults-only and it was in Norfolk. A lovely little site near Kings Lynn, an area we know well as we spent 15 years living there. It was called Westfields and I would heartily recommend it.

Colin, I am only working part time, and the van is supposed to be kitted out with internet access, I found I was not able to just drop everything and go camping at the last minute last year.

In addition, I have social engagements and charitable commitments during the week, hence I need to plan and book ahead.

Perhaps it has something to do with my own sense of security too, in that I don't like last minute surprises.

I shall have a look at the adult-only site in Norfolk that you have suggested with thanks.

Yes I understand DK, it's very different if you are working. When I worked on the trains I had to fix my holiday dates for the whole of the following year in October. I have quite a few volunteering commitments now but they are fairly flexible. We are all different and work in different ways. I like to be able to look at the weather forecast, see a good week coming up and just go. Provided I have no commitments that week of course.

That site in Norfolk was lovely. I left a review of it on here. They won Best New Small Site award last year. The couple who run the site are very friendly, and were very helpful when our water heater exploded soon after we arrived, flooding the bedding locker. The toilet and shower facilities there are among the best I have ever seen anywhere, and the site is lovely and peaceful.

Their UKCS website link appears to be down. I wonder if they've closed down?

The site hasn't closed down but their website has. When we were there last year they explained that the cost of their website was getting to be prohibitive, and they didn't get much benefit from it anyway. They have a presence on Facebook and they get quite a bit of business through that in addition to their main source, which is ukcampsite.

Surely whether it is a single person of two people, you would use approximately the same amount of electric and water plus occupying the pitch?

I must admit that is what I would have thought. Electricity would probably be the same for one as for two, and the difference in water consumption would be minimal. Pennies per day I would have thought. Looking at it from the site operator's perspective they are letting a pitch to a single person when they could have let it to a family and charged accordingly. They are already losing money in that respect. I don't blame anyone for asking, but I must admit that if I were a site owner I would say that the charge is for a pitch, we allow a second person for free.
