Hi, we've bought some lightweight metal steps with two treads for our caravan. However while in France on a sandyish pitch we found the legs were digging into the groundsheet and over two weeks have left marks. We are concerned this could end up causing holes with further use.
What do any of you helpful people use with this type of step to avoid this issue. Don't want something that's going to make the steps slide when being used. The groundsheet is an isabella one (not permeable).
Thanks.

I use a plastic double step. Available in any caravan shop. This one.

Not my choice as such, it came bundled with the starter kit when I bought my van, but can't fault it in 6 years use, even my dog is happy with it, it's a Millenco plastic double step. If I were needing to buy a step, I'd go for the same without hesitation.

It frequently sits on my (woven) awning carpet, AND the tarp type material awning draft excluder that fits along bottom of van, been used on an assortment of surfaces from soft grass to rough slate HS, and never had a problem with it in any way.

Similar steps in wider and single tread styles available.

I used metal jar lids under the feet of my camp bed to minimise the risk of damaging the groundsheet by digging in as there was no carpet inside the inner tent.

We use 2 strips of wood with squares at the end for the steps legs to slot into.
Helps spread the load particularly on grass or sandy pitches.

This is one of the main reason I have never liked that kind of step.
Always plastic for us.

WE have never used the plastic step that came with the caravan as they are useless. We purchased a Milenco double step and it does not sink on. See https://www.milenco.com/products/steps/aluminium-rubber-top-double-step

I don't buy ones with feet, but ones that have a bar all the way around the base. It also stops them sinking into soft grass pitches.

I bolted short bars to my current one.

Another shout for the Milenco plastic double step. Well made, sturdy and very stable

We had the metal ones but quickly found out that the feet aren't very good, went through the awning carpet, or sink in the grass and eventually the rubber feet fell off which then allowed sand and mud to go up into the legs, we now use the plastic double steps

Those are metal steps in the link and not plastic.

Thanks all. In an attempt to keep the weight we carry to a minimum we bought the lighter weight metal steps. Before that we had a one step plastic one but found on some pitches it was too big a step down hence the change to a two tread step. Think will look at what we can place under the legs to see if can rectify the problem before buying a two tread plastic one.
