Hi Folks
We've gone to use our Mobicool W40 (purchased in Aug 2010) and it no longer cools.....oddly though it still can heat which isn't much use in this weather
The unit has only been used 3 times.....any ideas what Mobicools after sales service is like?

Does anyone have any ideas for us to try to see if we can fix it or are we best going to Mobicool?

As always any help or advice greatly accepted.

Coudl it be because of this really hot weather? I would imagine anything like that would have to work really hard to cool anything this weather.

I would call them and see what they say.

Is this a fan cooled unit if so is the fan spinning? I think this unit has 2 fans internal and external. If the fans are spinning then it should be working as all they do is blow air over a heat exchanger to cool the inside.
The maufacturer is Waeco

According to the spec the unit cools max 18degC below ambient so at the mid 20s temps of this week it won't get that cold. Test it by running it overnight, if you put a few canned drinks in they should be cold by morning. If the unit definitely not working you need to return it to the retailer you bought it from as it will be guaranteed for a year.

Hi all
Thanks for your replies.....when the unit was working ok a little green led light would show green and the fans would run whereas the green light no longer lights up nor does the fan run. When i move the switch to the heat position the red light comes on and the turns ok and sort of heats up the box...not what we want in this weather.

The unit is out of its 1 year warranty so I'll guess I'll just call up Mobicool/Weaco and see what they say...

I'll let you know how I get on

Thanks all

Waeco are Dometic in the UK

http://www.waeco.co.uk/contacts/default.aspx

Funny thing year guarantee in the UK is supposed to be 2 years in Europe .....I went into PC world with something a while back and after being told sorry its a week over the year ......... I asked if they had read any of the uropean directives .... the manager was called and said he did not know about that but what the hell he would replace it because he is kind !

We pay enough into Europe perhaps time to try and get something out !

Turn it upside down and then turn it back and leave it to settle for 24hrs before turning it back on again. I read this advice on here before.

Hi, we have a Mobicool W45 and the Cold was not operating when switched to cold. We disconnected the power then took the lid off by opening the left lid all the way up and then sticking a flat screwdriver into the right side of the hinge and twisting the screwdriver so that it moves the hinged lid to the left far enough so that the right hinge post will pull up and out of the socket and then the led may be removed. The lid needs to be pried to the left about an 1/8 of an inch. (3mm). Turn the lid upside down and remove about 11 screws, then separate the two parts. The Defond slider switch is the problem because people push down on the switch while sliding and that bends the switch casing after a while and then the slider contacts can't make contact to supply power to the cooler. Remove the switch board, two screws with a Phillips driver. Use a needle-nose pliers to squeeze the squeeze the aluminum casing on the switch so that it will make better contact. There are 4 small tabs at the bottom of the aluminum casing that bend and then they don't put enough pressure on the contacts, squeeze at the 4 tab locations to tight things up. Install the switch, plug it in and test to see if it helped.

Welcome to the forum Stonemen, great tip btw, I wonder if the OP ever discovered that back in 2012 !

Anyway I notice you have the 110v version, are you over in the U.S. ?

The 1/8 of an inch reference got me thinking that.

at Stonemen, thanks for the instructions. Just 30min ago, (while camping in Cornwall) I used them to dismantle my toolbox, perform micro surgery and get the dam thing working again.

Although to get mine working I had to use a little cable tie to hold the switch firmly to the right (cold), and then assemble it without putting the PCB back into position, hay it works and the beer is chilling nicely now 👍

Good post VanDan, I'm sure that will be useful to someone down the line.
Thanks again for posting.

Harking back to the original post here, but from the misfortunes of one of our UKCS members a couple of years or so back where he bought a Mobicool fridge/freezer from a well known online retailers European store (as opposed to UK store) AFTER Brexit, and it arrived faulty, there where all sorts of problems/costs of returning it to the seller, so Mobicool support in UK was sought - seemingly there is none!

A few of us bought the same fridge/freezer at the same time from the same European retailer as the price was one third cheaper than from any UK retailer, even after shipping costs, but expected the well known global brand retailer to honour usual retail laws, they sort of did, BUT threw a host of cross boarder barriers in the way that brought huge costs into returning the faulty item. We all got a little jittery on this news and looked into Mobicool UK support just in case we may need support IF our otherwise satisfactory fridges developed a fault later.

It doesn't seem that the Mobicool brand (a budget brand division of Waeco/Dometic) is officially distributed in the UK! .... so no support! The products are freely available from countless outlets, but it would appear they must be 'Grey Imports' from the European or other markets, and support such as it is, would lie solely with the retailer!

So if you've got a Mobicool product and it develops a fault, outside of the retail act protection, and limited time that is effective, you've got a choice of DIY fix or dump it, it would seem! Other Dometic products seem to have at least some, and often good aftermarket support, but NOT the Mobicool brand!
