Hello All

I decided last year we needed to buy a trailer, simply because the wife and kids bring along more baggage when we go camping these days
So I bought of eBay a Caddy 530, the model without drop down tail and high sides, it will do us a treat. My only questions are does anyone know a good method of cleaning the galvanised sides, and would there be any benefit in using 10" wheels, rather than the 8" wheels that are standard, as I know Towsure sell these for other Caddy models.
Many Thanks!
Keith

Cleaning - just soapy water and a brush really for normal grime Might need a bit of a scrub if it has ben stored outside.

Remember glavanised steel is meant to go dull over time. so an older one will always look a bit more careworn than a new shiney one.

Wheels: The benefit of larger ones is that they rotate less for a certain distance travelled, so less wear on the bearing and tyres, higher weight loading on the tyres probably, the trailer might handle a bit better etc. But there are thoudands of 8 inch wheeled trailers out there happily trundling about - I think we are talkining marginal improvements here

But it doesn't seem worth it to me. A new set of wheels and tyres (3 assuming you get a spare) is going to be at least £100 going on the price I paid for a 10 inch spare for recently.

Which is probably a significant proportion of the price you paid for the trailer.

If think you wantt 10 inch wheels, it'd make more sense to sell this one and to buy one with 10 inch wheels I think. but mioght as well try this one out first.

Hi Keith.

Your 8" wheels will be fine, the only thing to be aware of is that most 8" wheel tyres are only rated to 60mph, no problem with that for UK use, as you are restricted to that speed, but if you ever decide to go over to France, you are permitted to tow upto 80mph, I went for a trailer with 13" car size wheels, as my use is mostly for France, although the trailer I went for was available with either 10" or 13" wheels, the only downside with larger wheels is that the trailer will sit higher, and could obscure your rear view maybe.

Thanks Andy,

Was not aware of towing speed in France was higher, we did contemplate either Germany or France this year, though it looks like we are of to sunny Dorset and several weekends away.

Cheers

Is it actually possible to fit 10 inch wheels (5 00 - 10) to caddy 530 trailer, or are the simply too wide?

Smaller wheels equals lower center of gravity, thus better stability. Laws of physics
