We were cold on our first night away at half-term because we paid for EHU only to get there and find signs everywhere saying don't use electric heaters because site supply was only 6 amp.

Our next campsite we've booked is a C&CC site - are they all 10 or 13 amp? We're going to the one at Clitheroe. I wouldn't like to be in a position again where we didn't have any heat. We thought about a Black Cat as backup but after the safety recall on these, have been put off a bit.

It's a pity you can't have dynamo wind-up heaters like the torches!!

Hi,

we use oil filled radiator.

1Kw which is less than 5A, so can be used nearly anywhere.

If you like fan heaters, buy a fan heater with a switchable 1 or 2KW setting if the supply is limited, personally I don't like the noise.

Remember the Halogen heaters turn off if knocked over, but they stay hot for a while, they'll scorch or melt the tent if you're unlucky.

All C&CC sites are 10A or 16A,worth giving individual sites a call to clarify what there one is..Wind up heaters now that would be a good idea !! would have to last all night on one wind though !!

I am really annoyed if a site says you can't use an electric heater. We always pay extra for Hook up as OH is unwell and has to have a heater if it is a bit cold.   Only use it for a short time as the van warms up in no time.

The only other thing we use the elect for is the kettle and could manage with the gas if no elec. One site charged us £2.50 p night for elect and we could not use the heater.

Now I check.

as an alternative to a heater if you ever find yourself on a site with low amps, then take along a gas lamp as they throw off a bit of heat also.

it isn't ideal, but as a source of heat then it works fine.

Interesting thread as we're just thinking about a heater. Can someone please tell me what SIG stands for?

SIG stands for Sewn in Groundsheet,ZIG is a zip in groundsheet and ZOG is a zip off groundsheet.-I think.......SIG is definately correct cos I have one in my tent, keeps weather and creepy crawlies out.
