Thanks Moondust - 5 ltrs of Colemans own would cost around £50. Definitely got to get hold of some Aspen. Never going back to using unleaded unless I have no choice. Dirty, smelly, fast burning and carcinogenic (cheap though).

Started using the Aspen fuel last year (after reading it on here) Managed to get a 5 ltrs but have now run out.

I was happy with the fuel but wondered what other people thought after using it a year or two?

Is there an up to date stockist list about?

There is a stockist list here

Just spoke to them on the phone, they do not have a stockist in London at all. They said that Millets were not interested in stocking it, I suggested Cotswold outdoor and he said he'd look in to it.

I'll have to bomb down the A3 to Guildford for some

Hi again
On a slightly different point. Do any of you put oil in the pump of your Colemans, there is a small hole labeled "oil". My stove pump squeaks when pumping. Should I lubricate it and if so with what oil? There are two types of pump washer too, leather and synthetic and I'm not sure which mine is but I'm guessing that the leather variety need to be oiled to remain flexible.

If you have a leather pump bucket, then 3-in-1 or good old olive oil will do fine.
If it's a synthetic type then you might try a high temp. silicon grease.

Hi Spudz, small world

Moondust is right. The additives to unleaded are bad for your health and will damage your stove or lantern in the long run. I am a great fan of 4T, but another option is to use panel wipe, its an automotive degreaser you can get in motor spares stores and is basically naphtha too. If you have a good local supplier you can get it for about £12 for a 5 litre can, a bad supplier may ask up to £19.

Another plus with Aspen or PW is smell, or lack of it if you spill fuel, car petrol has a smell that lingers for ages while 4T and PW evaporates and leaves no odours.

My main hobby is collecting stoves (I know, sad thing for a grown up to do) and using car petrol is a real no no in the opinion of us stovies

Got any nights under canvas planned?

I've a 2 nighter with the family planned for the end of April but hope to fit another in earlier in April ... weather is getting very pleasant over here.
Only worry are our sleeping bags, but we can bring some fleece blankets to go under then to keep warm.
