Deapea,

I beg to differ, because we are talking about milli seconds in responce time being the difference between sustaining a electrical impulse sufficient to cause fibrilation of the heart.  A shock of 80 milliseconds is sufficient to kill. The length of cable to the first availble RCD is of significance.  It takes time, measurable in milli seconds, for a current to travel along a cable.

Regards Bob

Bob,

Current flow is really the flow of electrons and it is the same at any time and point in a series circuit regardless of the circuit length.

If you plug your lawnmower into a 30mA rcd protected socket in the house do you have another 30mA rcd directly at the lawnmower?

Have a look at this link. I accept that it will tell you that a caravan should have an rcd and I agree with this as there must be a means of isolation due to the fixed wiring in the caravan and the rcd is as good as anything to perform this task. But you will also see that an EHU on a pitch must be protected by a 30mA rcd so as I said you have 2 of the same in series. Not quite the same in a tent though, there is no fixed wiring and isolation can be achieved with the appliance 3 pin plug. What do you think?
