Thanks for the info scrufts, it's something I've been wanting to check out for a while.  Have you got any advice on which makes/suppliers of the dongle's are ok?

I bought an Asus Eee last year, just to have a small robust machine for work if I didn't want/need to lug a bigger laptop.  Haven't used it myself yet, but the kids love it!  Even though it's nothing compared to their hi tech gamey gadgets.  It is very robust, so thinking of taking it camping this year, so the dongle tip's a good'n - ta! 

Have a look under ebay and search for "3g usb modem". You'll find a few unlocked ones for sale. Make sure it is "hsdpa" compatible.(means you'll get the faster speeds) If you can work ebay, have a look at this item:

A good product without a doubt but this topic is about "Broadband in a Caravan".

Now most caravans are only going to be used for a limited time each year yet the Vodaphone USB stick is going to cost you around £30 a month on a fixed contract, or £360 a year compared to the Datawind that is FREE for the first year and £40 a year thereafter.

I for one would not want to be paying out £30 a month for something that I did not require 4, 5 or 6 months of the year and then only sporadically thereafter.

The Datawind has its limitations and it could never compete with a laptop, but with the difference in running costs of £320 each year, well that would buy me a lot of very nice pitches in some quite luxurious campsites <G>.
