Hi Merry.

From what I can tell the "DreamTime XL" has a mattress that is the same size as the "BaseCamp", it is probably just the foam insert and zip over fleece cover that gives the "DreamTime XL" it's extra thicknes, which if that is the case the premium price does seem a little over the top, I could be wrong who knows, also no reason I don't suppose that "ThermaRest" could offer the foam insert and zip over fleece cover, as a kind of an add on for "BaseCamp" owners if that's what they are looking for, also would you know if the "BaseCamp" has two valves or one, not sure why the "DreamTime XL" has two, when one would have done the job, just more to go wrong I thought when I got them.

well I bought two brand new self inflating mats from our local boot sale today. they are only Aldi ones but for £8 the pair they are fine for starters. We have an Aldi one we bought last year for my son, I'd never tried it out myself til yesterday when we put the new tent up and got all excited and wanted to lie in it! I was pleasantly surprised by how comfy it was.

We had all 3 in the tent this afternoon and OH fell asleep out there 9he had drank 2 cans of cider first though!) so I'm please with them.

My daughter has an Outwell flowie self infating mat... Can't say I'm totally impressed as it's quite thin and not over comfortable - maybe a bit harsh as I'm comparing it to our fat airics that the OH and I use. I find them incredible comfortable compared to the blow up air beds we used to have. Can't comment on the thermarests - have only tried them in Go Outdoors, not quite the same test as a two week break with a fat airic. I will get my little one an airic - maybe not a fat one, sure normal will do for a little adult - when she has grown out of the Outwell flowie design and wants something more grown up..
