I would give a thumbs up to the coleman (424) had mine for about a year, prior to that I used the one my brother has.
I like the easy acces to fuel - I have used unleaded and coleman - and the fold away breifcase format.
A dish cloth or 2 came in handy last summer - stopped the shoogling parts annoying the driver on a trip around Eire
There is an excellent website on repair an overhaul of the coleman stove
Thanks for all your replies to date..........If you had to recommend the best family camp stove which one would you experienced campers recommend ?????

Sorry scrap that!! I just found a supplier on line. - at £5.29 for HALF A LITRE. Im afraid im sticking to my more dangerous, but a lot cheaper unleaded petrol. Its not caused me any problems in the past, so until it does im sticking to it.
Around £5 per half litre is a typical price for Coleman Fuel. Aspen 4T is equaly as good and I paid around £12 for 5 litres last time I bought some.
wow why so expensive, go outdoors have almost doubled their price up from last year
this camping thing must be catching on

I wouldn't have thought so, just the same advice with any new camping kit. Make sure it is all there and works, well before you set off. Read the instructions over and over and make a couple of practice brews in the back garden, then you can always come back with more questions before you head off.
we used a dual fuel for lightweight & backpacking on unleaded with no problems , prior to that we had a coleman peak feather442 which clogged up on unleaded although they were supposed to run on it. We always cooked in the front of the tent or outside & kept a knife handy to cut thro the tent walls if trapped inside, but having seen a tent go up when a gas cartridge was changed next to a lit stove by leaving the valve open I doubt if we would have got out in time. I have also set myself on fire by changing a cartridge incorrectly on a gaz bluet stove.

At the risk of sounding smug, this is part of the reason I use paraffin fueled stoves when family camping, as it is a less explosive fuel ... plus I actually like the aroma ....
Seeing that the fueltank of the smaller Coleman is just under a litre and I only fill up with half litres... I do two breakfasts, one quickfry and a slowcook for tea... I'd say 5 litres would last about 10 x 2 days is about three weeks of camping.
