I was at a THS the year before last, where practically all the caravans had the little suitcase type solar chargers. Now I had read that these were hopeless, not powerful enough, etc, etc.
I asked the chap in charge what he thought. And he said they were ok for just topping up the charge, that's why a lot of people had them, and that it was nonsense to suggest they weren't good enough for purpose. He did however, make note of the fact that you need to get one which functions with daylight, not just sunlight.
So many people had them, so they can't be hopeless, can they? Although it would depend on how much electricity you were using.
I didn't have one of these. All my battery powers is the 12v lights (I have a hand operated lever gravity pump for water), so my battery (at 85amps) lasted for the week. It did need charging the second week though! And I did all my charging of mobile, TV, etc in the car whilst touring the area.
