Oh thanks, that's great. Now that you've done all the humiliating background research of climbing in and out of the bags I might toddle up to Attwoolls at some point over the next day or so and have a look at the Elles myself.

It was great fun! The Vango wasn't actually too huge and I was quite tempted by it (I can't remember the model but I think it was black and the extreme temp was -twenty something.

Let us know how you get on!

I too wake up very cold and can't get back to sleep. I have just bought an Outwell Camper Lux. I have tried it a couple of very cold nights in the garden and I was very comfortable. It is wide so I don't feel too restricted and you can unzip the bottom only if your feet get hot. Its got a built in pillow which I thought would be useless but is in fact surprisingly comfortable.

hello all - back again. in answer to one question, i am a petite girlie of 40+! I have today bought the Tesco Ultra-Lite Mummy Sleeping Bag (£35)and exchanged vouchers so about £15.00, and will get a fleece liner at some stage. It has quite a wide foot space considering and it is thin, but reviews elsewhere albeit varied, are positive and that it does perform well overall. The advice I've had is don't stuff the bag away until it's ready for packing, (it's single layer goose down, and any bag liner fleece ideally should go around the bag and not in it - in order to allow the bag to stay lofted. of course with the Fat Airic too i'm hoping for a lovely warm camping week later in August and hopefully a dummy run somewhere before then :-) next stop - fleece PJs :-)Cheers everyone. Here's to happy camping and warm nights!

any  backpacker will recommend a Buffalo fleece liner, the only sleeping bags worth having  are made by - MountainEquipment, Rab, Ajungilak, North Face, Buffalo, Snugpak and Mountain Hardware and PHD they cost an arm and a leg but expeditions thro all the cold places on Earth use these makes

i find cold feet the worse part, and no matter how much wiggling you do in the bag you just can't warm them up and i simply cannot sleep with cold feet!

apart from using a hot water bottle and thick socks, has anyone got any other tips for keeping feet warm?

btw, try wearing a hoodie in bed when camping and pull the hood up. this helps me get/stay warm when my feet already are.

Hiya. Well, I went up to Attwoolls and had quite a prolonged dither at their baffling array of sleeping bags. My current bag is a Vango Astral 450, which is very warm but stupidly cumbersome/big/long for me and also rather ugly . Yes I know that shouldn't matter but in a way it does. I quite like the strong purple outer cover of my 450, but when that is contrasted with the very browny Burberry check of the lining (the colours in the link are different to my bag), well, its not good. OK, shoot me for wanting good looking form as well as function!

So, I want a warm comfy bag which is a better fit for me and ideally looks ok too.

I thought the Vango Nitestar W (for women specific) looked very warm, well designed and well made  if  you are happy with a traditional slimline mummy design. I tried it on and was reminded why I am not!

There was  a Gelert women's mummy bag too but for some reason that one didn't speak to me and looked rather slim too.

I bought a Coleman Elle so obviously there is plenty to like about them. In practical terms  the shorter length is great and am very impressed with the shape, which seems to offer the comfort-room of a square bag but with enough tailoring to reduce the amount of dead cold air you need to use your own body heat to keep warm . There is additional insulation in the foot and chest area to keep those body parts warmer. The Elles look good and look like women's bags but not in a seven year old girl way. I bought the warmest of the three Elles and am really looking forward to using it ...in June, July and August.

I think Coleman have the start of a great range with the Elles but they need to add another, warmer model. A fourth Elle with more insulation for family/campsite type use at either end of the season, with a bigger hood and either a drawstring or additional cuff around the shoulders would be brilliant. Might email Coleman to suggest that!

Anybody else got any reviews of women's bags to add? I'm hoping fahlin and piglet will report back on theirs after they've been used. I've been clicking about looking for other options but so far can only find skinny shaped bags for lean, wirey backpacking or mountaineering types.

hi used my bag this weekend . . .but sorry it was not in a tent. however, it was a chilly back room and i am so far delighted. i could move easily, the thin feel of the bag was not a problem. it lofted well. i will undoubtedly get a fleece liner for later in the year and probably layer up myself too. as for the fat airic - wonderful.
