Hi everyone, thanks for all your advice. As for having a canvas tent, if you see the post that says help i think i may have been conned, you can see that we were going to buy a second hand Bear Lake, but got ripped off!!
So the back up was the Montana 6 - it's all down to what you can afford at the time & as this was our first year camping as a family we didn't want to spend a fortune, to find out that camping wasn't for us. As it tunrs out we love it!!!
It's wierd that no matter how hot it is during the day, the beds get so cold on a night time. I guess mattress toppers are a good idea! We were under the shade of some trees for our sleeping area, so it didn't get too hot & with having a 3 year old with us, didn't manage to sleep much past 7.30am anyway.
On the plus side of our tent - we have the sewn in ground sheet & the friends we went on holiday didn't, our friends thought having the separate ground sheet was better than ours, until their tent was raided by squirrels whilst we were out for the day!!! They ate 2 full boxes of cereals, chewed the spray bottle of cooking oil & drank that & chewed through an air pump & phone charger. This was over 2 days!
So will always put all our food in plastic boxes & think sewn in ground sheets are great for keeping the little fluffy thieves out.
We've been camping in Wales & York so far & can't wait to get out again soon.
When we can afford it, we will probably invest in a Bear Lake, but we'll save the pennies for a little longer.
