Every year I try really hard to cut back on the kit, but with pretty much no luck!
Once you go past the basics, (tent, sleeping stuff, cooking stuff), everything else is needed just as much as each other!!! ( Or as little as each other!!)
I did leave the windbreak and big table behind (on purpose) last trip though!
cosy stuff to sleep in- including extra covers and PJ's that are both warm and decent to be seen walking through the field to the loo in! I often sleep in a soft jersey tracksuit which I can also make breakfast in with a coat/cardigan over the top! Fleecy suits for the little ones for the same reason.
When the little one was small the buggy was a lifesaver. At night we left up with footmuff, ready to go, so if she woke early in the morning or could not be settled in the night I could scoop her up whilst putting my coat & wellies over my PJ's, and pop her in all warm and snug, and go for a walk round the site before the volume got to high! The protectabub to make the buggy dark was also fantastic for naps and evenings was also v handy.
Other than the tent, the one thing I could not do without is warm, adequate comfortable bedding. As for the rest, I could eat out if needs be, sit on the ground if I had to, fall asleep before it gets dark and use the site loos, and also the showers and jump around until I was dry , but I could not do without a decent nights sleep.
One thing definitely to camp without is a generator. Love camping but becoming increasingly disturbed by the number of people bringing generators to run everything from TVs to cookers and destroying the peace and quiet for the rest of us.
