Would like to get some Deltas for our Montana 6 - as standard tent pegs came out in the wind.  How many (minimum) as space is crucial do you think we would need?

It's got to be Delta pegs - they're not the cheapest but experience has shown me you get what you pay for!17

In the process of buying a new tent (Vango Tigris 800) and think I will invest in some Delta pegs to keep it secure, heard nothing but good things about them!

That is because there is nothing bad to say about them :)

i use (about) 10inch nail type with the plastic bit on top. about 40p each. they just push stones out of way. ive used long plastic peg before and when ive pilled them out of the ground, they looked like bananas!!!!

The nice thing about the Delta design is that it is less than 6" deep yet twice as effective in normal soil.

Where is the best place to put Deltas? In the ground at the end of guylines lol

Sorry couldnt resist, OH decided to take a day off work and is in clown mode so my brain is frazzled now :)

If you have more guylines than Deltas, space the Deltas out.

One on each corner for starters then the rest inbetween. We always put ours on the guys that take the most weight/stress.

Hope this helps

Out of interest, how much force does it take to fail a guy pegged with a delta peg compared to a comparable straight peg, i.e. similar material and cross-section?

And what fails - the guy, the peg, or the ground?

Nylon is fine for most soils.
Stainless for stonier ground but rock pegs for the hardest.

I tested an 8" rock peg in average soil against a Delta.
The rock peg pulled through the soil at 23Kg and Delta at 45Kg.
Not the same cross-section I know.

This is my second proper weekend away not that you can really see them but tent is fully pegged out with Delta pegs really pleased with them it was a bit blustery on an exposed hill all lines still tight when i took it down this evening. Great product. And on a different thread now using the Utility tent for cooking as advised here
