I picked up one of the Wiko UFO LED lights the other day, to see how they are really. I experimented in the kitchen.
Light from it is ok, suspended from say a tent roof it would be ok for a bit of general area lighting (not bright, but useful enough) Not sure how we will use it camping, maybe as a general light in the sleeping pod for when the kids go to bed, or as a general light in the main area - still would use the head torches and the gas lamp though.
But I can't say I've come across aby LED lanterns yet which are really up to being a general light source - they just aren't bright enough or last long enough.
One of my dislikes with them is that there is generally no indication of the light output - telling me there are 30 LEDS or whatever doesn't help as there is a wide range of LED light outputs - lots of not so bright ones being cheap of course.
What I'd like to see is a lamp useing some decent output LEDS and a decent sized battery (D cells say) that can be changed, this might have a chance of lasting a resonable time, instead of poxy AA's.
Saffron, I think you might find them a bit limiting given you light requirements. I'd be tempted at using a 12V inspection lamp and rigging it up to a 12V battery, should get a good run time, but not cheap.

Thanks for the extra messages. Hmmm, reading the 3 new messages makes me think that, what I should really do is get 2 or 3 LED UFO lights for now (not the Wilko ones) and then, next year, or the next, when we can afford it, we buy a 12v battery. I had already thought of buying one, but the price put me off and also, I wanted to investigate more about their eco impact and safety, as we have a small toddler. Gosh, never thought that getting tent lighting would end up so complicated! LOL. But all the messages in here have been really helpful!
I m feeling better and now hoping to go camping on Monday, after all! So will try and get the lights today.
Thanks .
PS: We already have one head LED torch which is quite good. That will do for reading and when looking for things in dark corners inside the tent.
