Excellent advice - Just an extra thought....
We have in our tent repair kit in addition to the above - 2 tent pole repair sleeves - one for each of the pole dimensions our two smaller tents use. They are basically lengths of metal (10-15cm long) with a hole diameter slightly larger than the pole diameter. You can buy these for several tent ranges, just choose one the right size (make of tent isn't important). If you don't have enough replacement sections of pole with you, you can insert the broken pole within the metal sleeve and duct tape it in place, giving a rigid repair. Best used where the pole isn't so bent when pitched.
