Electrical ignition (illustration 6):
- Press the thermostat (B) and keep it depressed.
- Ignition takes place automatically. You will hear a ticking noise. If ignition was
successful, the noise will stop and the flame meter will turn green. Release the
thermostat.
- If the flame goes out, ignition will be repeated automatically.
- Set the desired refrigeration level by means of the thermostat (B). (The bigger
the dot, the colder the setting)
Seems straightforward

thank you for your help i will rellook and try again.
it was a new van to us last year . i thought i had turned the electric on and put my food in the fridge including ice cream in the freezer then noticed i had not set it correctly in my panic i decided to try the gas to cool it quickly but didnt find it very clear so i turned if back on to electric.this tool a while then to cool down . we put thus gas on if stopped on ferry terminals or sometimes the day before we go away at our storage place to cool the fridge before travelling.

Nora, if it is a fairly new model thretford fridge it's probably like ours. We use ours on gas at rallies every weekend.
Check you have got the gas tap on the gas pipe to the fridge switched on ie in line with the pipe. Then press the little ON switch on the control panel. Then select the flame symbol from the button on the left side of the panel. If you are very quiet you can just about hear it doing some quiet clicking as the gas automatically lights. It may take a little while if it has not been on gas before. All is then silent. Put the temp contol on the right button on full, and leave for 5 mins. Test by putting hand in ice box. Should feel cold.
If, for whatever reason, it has not lit, no gas will escape as it automatically will not come through.
Sometimes fridges will be reluctant to work properly if they are not level and are on a slope.
Good luck!
