I just got one delivered by betterware.  Have not used it yet.

I always iron when away in the caravan.  I don't like a huge build up of dirty clothes, so I always spend just a little time most days keeping up with the washing.  We just don't have room to keep 2 weeks of clothes for all of us.  It also means that I don't have lots of washing to do when we get home.  Half an hour a day isn't much.

When we go camping I take our oldest clothes, with one smartish outfit each. The kids get everything filthy so no point using good stuff for them. When we went for our epic seven week trip to France last year I bought them most of their summer stuff in charity shops/jumble sales/NCT sales and threw it away at the end of the seven weeks! Camping ruins clothes, IMHO.

I had to wash clothes of course but I don`t rate campsite washing machines very highly overall. I`ve never found one that`s as good at cleaning as my home one. Perhaps it`s because I live in an area with soft water?

The other thing about using campsite washing machines is that you can`t wait till you have enough to sort into one whites load, one coloured etc. So usually everything has to go in at once, thus you can`t take clothes that run or are fussy about washing temperatures. I never hand wash even at home...life`s just too short, especially on a campsite!

I`m just interested though...Hubby will usually put a load of washing in while on site, but I can`t imagine him ever ironing there. Is it just the female campers who iron?

I have an iron and board at home, but unfortunatly have become allergic to ironing (red welts appearing on back of hands).

As soon as my daughter arrived, all dry clean only clothes were sent to the charity shop, but I do offer to press the OH's shirts under the mettress if he needs them!!

Thanks for the tip Dawn, I'm sure some will find it useful.

I very rarely iron anything at home & shan't be doing it when camping either. I just don't have the time at home & want to relax when away. I find that if I hang things like the kids school shirts on hangers as soon as they come out of the tumble drier then they do not crease. I don't often need to get dressed up smart anyway.

Dawn I too detest ironing and have spent 2 1/2hours ironing this afternoon.

I've just given the eldest a right rollocking--  9 tshirts, 5 works shirts,  going out clothes, trousers etc when everyone else had 4,  as well as everything else.

Wot ironing for an 18 and a 20 year old you might say but I can't stand them looking a mess or the piles of unironed clothes either!

 They wouldn't care.

Mind u when we went on holiday the eldest did iron his work uniform.

On Sunday night I taught the youngest how to iron a work shirt, trousers, tshirt and jeans so he can't say he doesn't know how. It was hilarious me and Iccy had to force ourselves not to laugh. He deliberately did it very badly hoping that  I would take over  I didn't .At least when he gets married his OH won't be able to blame his mother on not teaching him how.

The boys don't think it's womans work as Iccy did all the ironing for years 'til he got damaged neck discs and I won't let him now!

Hi Val, this is one of those situations on campsites where some chaps take a much greater role than at home! Another example: who usually cleans the toilet at home and who usually deals with the 'chemical waste disposal' on the campsite? I have more than once been asked where my husband was and how unusual it was to see a woman dealing with the toilet!!!

Back to ironing, like you I rarely iron at home and don't think I ever have on a campsite. But for those who do, IKEA sell a little table-top ironing board which costs about £3 I think. MT
