Another vote here for UFO lights, cheap, bright small and with decent batteries seam to last ages...

Can also hook them over the top of your windbreak when sitting out

Just a little warning...

I bought some of these from poundland a yeasr or so back.

When i put batteries in to test them one of the LEDs glowed an orange colour.
As i went to show the wife, look one dodgy led..

It exploded.. OK not a big bang or anything but dangerous enough. I am glad i was not looking at it when it went.

The ones i bought from asda are much better quality, I noticed they are £5 now sure i only paid £3 for them last year.

Hi all,

Can anyone post a link to what these UFO lights are? I was looking for reviews for a decent lantern but, by the sound of things, these may do the job at a fraction of the cost.

Thank's Former Scout. I've been camping for a few years now and have found the advice on this forum invaluable.

I picked up one of the UFO lights from the local Asda today for £5. I'll be getting another few as they appear to be very good value for money.

I agree: this forum is great for advice, which I've sought on many occasions myself. I only returned to camping about five years ago, a gap of too many years from my days in the Scouts. I got back into it when I went as a helping parent to my elder son's Cub Scout camps.

I'm sorry to note, however, that ASDA have put up their prices; last year the UFOs were £3.99.

Make sure you check the UFO as soon as possible as, occasionally, one gets through that has not been soldered properly.
