Dare say you're right they will not check the cable but if they do.....? Anyway C&CC say
The use of a second cable should be avoided, but if used it must be fitted with the British Standard plug and connector. The connection between the two cables should be raised off the ground. Taped cable joints and ordinary 13 amp plugs and sockets must not be used under any circumstances

You can buy the male & female 240v ehu connectors for a couple of quid from Screwfix. They're as easy as wiring a domestic plug.
I tried to find these on their website with no luck, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place. My cable is far too long and I was thinking if I could get the male and female connectors then I could half the cable I have, connect it up and give it to my sister who is only starting out with all her camping gear. Could someone possibly post the links to these products?
Shortened mine to make a 15 and 10 metre. no problems. As long as you are competent at this kind of thing and check it with a meter afterwards then it should be no problem at all. Much handier and easier to have the two which when needed (not needed to in 8 yrs!) can be linked together to make up 25metre when not long enough.
Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to shorten it, but I don't think I'll put plug and socket on both the cut ends so it can be joined again, cos I suspect a joined lead, especially on the ground in the wet, could be a bit dodgy. If we ever move to another seasonal pitch I'll have to buy a new long lead.
Thanks again.
Thats why they are out door plugs, insulated & seals fitted, they work fine in the rain but obviously not stood in puddles.
We were in Cumbria once using the extension , just put a plastic crate under the connection to be safe but it was no problem.
If water did get in, thats what the cut out is for on the box.
do not like the idea of joined cables on wet grass when children are running round or animals come that.sure glad mine was not joined when we were flooded of keswick last year,it was still plugged in when we woke and laying in two foot of water.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
The normal 16Amp commando plugs are only rated to IP44,splashproof, and are designed to be use in the near vertical position.
If you want to join two together you should be using plug and socket rated to IP67.

I cant link directly to the page, however go here select catalogue, then on the left it has "Hook up units" then click accessories, doesn't give prices though!
