The Safari Chef is about 12" diameter. I don't rate it as a BBQ as it does not get hot enough. It would be a waste to even attempt a decent steak on one. Roasting a chicken could prove fatal.
I cooked on our Safari Chef for the first time last night(at home), just a trial run, I did a yellow Chicken thai curry, I was imprest at how quickly the Safari heated up and had to turn the gas down as not to cook the chicken to fast a burn it, I didn't use the BBQ for the chicken but I can say that the griddle got really hot fast and so did the lid/wok when I added the yellow thai curry source to the chicken. I have the LP Safari Chef with a campingaz 907 bottle and have ordered the roasting pan as we feel if it will be fine with a small chicken.
I used mine for the 1st time Noobs over the weekend camping in Cromer. Morrisons peppered beef grill steaks on the griddle with a round of sausages afterwards.
Very impressed and I even forced myself up to clean it properly afterwards which never happens and I end up ruining things.
Great blongs the a peppered steak sounds right up my street, still not tried ours out in the field so to speak just at home, although the roasting pan came this morning so I guess the OH will be trying it out very soon.
Still not had our tent up yet :o( hoping the weather stop nice till the weekend so I can find somewhere to try our hand and putting it up for the first time, ( our garden is to boggy and small) going to see if Clumber Park will let us put it up there if not it will be when I get a the toe bar put on the car and head of for a weekend...
I have the carri chef de-lux and have found it to be excellent but if you change attachments you need to be careful not to put them on damp grass because the enamel on the attachement will craze.

We are getting well ahead in the competition I have just invented about using the CADAC, come on you 2 catch up ;-)
3 more times this weekend! Sausages for lunch on the BBQ, then Chinese pork ribs and lamb kebabs for tea then cheese burgers for lunch on sunday.
Got a feeling when we get going there will be no stopping us ;oP

Quick question, I'm looking to find a bbq for my grandparents. They have a little eriba and a little car so can't fit much in. I like the look of the safari as it's compact and multi-use. I just wondered what size it is when packed up in the bag? How much room it takes up?
Thank you

------------- If you see 2010 Hobby Prestige 720 UKFE twin axel 30ft caravan it may be mine.... it was stolen.
We absolutely love ours. For those who say they don't get hot enough I would suggest maybe they're faulty as ours gets red hot.
I recently got the roasting pan (which I didn't realise they did one for the safari) and have tried a couple of small chickens. I tell you what, it cooks them beautifully and in exactly the same time it'd take in the oven. That's with the heat turned quite for down as well. I do put a bit of water in the bottom though just to stop too many sticky bits getting welded on.

Has anyone had the safari chef and the eazi/carri chef or swapped one for the other. How much smaller is the safari chef and, like for like re cooking meals, does it do as good a job as the eazi/carri (including roast chickens). I love my eazi chef but if the safari chef packed much smaller and did the same job i could consider swapping.
An update - I bit the bullet and bought the safari chef. Used it last weekend and to answer my own question above it does everything my eazi chef does. Cooked bacon for breakfast and a roast chicken for dinner (I had to customize a foil tray as my roasting tin isnt here yet). We also deliberately used it in the middle of the garden unshielded to see how it would stand up with a breeze - no problems. The chicken was delicious and cooked perfectly (having perfected it on my eazi chef I knew what to do). It is a much better size for us as we are fairly limited on space. What am I going to do with my eazi chef now?
