Thanks all. I'm completely confused now!!

Anyone used one like this? http://www.tradetalk.com/Cadac-Safari-Chef-HP/p/22537/260/en  It looks quite sturdy and toddler-proof. I guess the only problem is only one stove at a time.

It seems from above that it's a toss-up between the Campingaz Chef and the Campingaz camping kitchen extra.  I am a bit worried by reviews that say the stands for these aren't that great and are fiddly to erect. Any thoughts on a good stand I could buy separately?

The stands are excellent - wing nut the legs to the underside of the stove and likewise wing nut the shelf to the legs.

Its if you use the fabric storage unit that can result in it being a bit of a fiddle as you strap the storage unit to the legs and then have to insert the shelf from inside the storage unit. Its one of those technique thingies, but worth it when its done. We only add the storage unit for longer stays. For a weekend we just use the legs, which are adjustable in length, and the shelf. Only takes a couple of minutes to erect.

If you don't want the storage unit, you can get the version of the stove with legs without the unit, although this version doesn't always seem to come with a storage bag, which costs £10 on its own and I don't think it comes with the straps for storing the legs. You may as well get the complete kit and just use the storage unit cum bag as a bag.

With the legs adjustable it is very flat and sturdy, unlike having a loose stove sat upon a kitchen unit (many of which don't have adjustable legs, so your stove isn't flat).

Thanks guys. I phoned Go Outdoors this afternoon and they'll price match me on a Campingaz Camping Kitchen Extra for £60.  Does anyone know the answer re me asking if you can grill and boil at the same time?

I haven't tried it as we also have a single suitcase stove that we always seem to have with us or we've done the pan stuff before or after the griddle, just keeping the other stuff warm. I'd be interested to see whether anyone else has tried it. I guess that there could be a risk to the pan base or the finish on the griddle.

Can you put the pan on the griddle to keep it warm then? That would be fine.

If you reduce the heat of one of the burners and put the pan on that side - I couldn't see it being a problem.

Get two of these http://www.tradetalk.com/Outwell-Portable-Gas-Stove-2009/p/261222/260/en and put them on a sturdy table. Somebody already recommended them, calling them "suitcase stoves". They come in many different brands and can be had for £13 if you shop around, in fact I think they are £10 at Towsure. The gas canisters are widely available, last well and cost about £2. They are as good as a domestic gas cooker and can easily be put well out of reach when not in use.

We're currently using something similar RichardB52.  I didn't realise this was a "suitcase stove".  It's not that powerful tho, think the Outwell one is probably better having said that.  I like the idea of having the griddle on the Campingaz Camping stove.

I use a couple of the suitcase stoves, it makes things a but more portable but will probably move on to something bigger in the future when we have more space. In the meantime though space dictates that we stick with the smallest possible solution.

It is a necessity! We are looking at roof boxes and bags, I think we will have to wait until next year to upgrade the car!
