I use a SnugPak pillow on top of a self-inflating pillow, wrapped in a t-shirt.

The SnugPak gives me the comfort whilst the inflatable pillow gives me the height and it all packs down very small.

Pillows from home in vacumn (spelling?) bags take up hardly any room. I love to have my own pillow case from home.

I discovered those huge, square continental pillows in France a couple of years ago. Used them for the first time in the tent, then used them at home. Tried without them on the next trip but it just wasn't the same. So now, the huge pillows go in - even if something else has to go!
Actually though, they do squish down quite flat. We put all the bedding into a zipped stripy bag and it's surprising just how much can be squished in. The boys are happy with normal pillows tucked into the mummy hoods of their sleeping bags.

We use the small camping pillows for the kids and the OH but I have to have my own pillow from home - the travel ones are great as they have their own little bags and pack away to nothing - couldn't imagine using inflatable ones = yuk!!

We use two cheapish polyester pillows each at home, changing one every year. We take the old ones with us camping in France, sometimes with old quilts too, and jettison them at the end of the holiday - leaves more room to bring back wine! As we travel outwards overnight, the kids are using them, but they don't sleep as much on the return journey.
