Read this response from the seller:

The plug is to IP44, and the cable is watertight, so both are ok for rain etc. The sockets (4 way block with switch should be kept inside and away from water). Personally, I would not use a site that did not have RCD protection on the supply side. If in doubt, please do not bid on this, or any other item you are unsure of. I would certainly not intentionally place anyone at risk, by anything I have to offer or otherwise. I hope this answers any query you may have. Regards Conrad

Be aware that the IP44 rating is not 'waterproof'.

If you want to use a mains socket out of doors where it is exposed to the rain, you really ought to be using IP56 rated sockets.

Just been browsing on E bay, and found loads of so called tent EHU's. Out of about 20 for sale just 2 had RCD protection. There were a couple of "Sunncamp" EHU's as well. £41 bid last time I looked!

One of the dubious ones even had the "protection" of a "2Kw Circuit breaker!"                   2Kw eh! well by the time that trips with little Johnny on the end it's going to be a case of "Frying Tonight!"

Happy Camping Frank & Kathy

What he does not mention is the 'residual' current in that length of cable even if protected by RCD at the hook up post, more than enough to kill you!!

Another thing does anyone else agree thats only 1mm cable?. Looking at the scale of things thats all it seems to me, completely inappropriate then?

I thought we'd put that one to bed?  There's no way the capictance of 50m of PVC cable is sufficient to hurt anyone.

It doesn't matter at all which end of the cable the RCD is on - it just matters that it works - that's why it's important to have your own in your hook-up - so you can test it and be sure its not like the site one which you can't test and might be faulty.

hi all

me again i am going to do everyone a deal on EHU  i sell the sunncamp one which include a storage bag on my web site here camping online the deal is this avoid the ebay ones and be safe and buy the proper ones if you want one MENTION  THAT YOU ARE A UKCS MEMBER  and i will sell you the mobile mains triple or the single for £5.00 off my retail price for this week only i have a few left about 10 triples and 30 singles

useful info,  many shops are selling the triple for £99.99 same as last year the price to dealers this year came down by 30% but some dealers wont drop there prices the new average price should be around £79.99 so look around before you buy its not expensive to be safe making your own can be dangerous and many sites wont allow you to use home made units if not fully protected
