Taking mine away this weekend for the first time. Will take the reversable griddle bit, and the BBQ bit, dont see any point in taking the rest.
Do you really need the deflector thing?

The deflector goes under the wire rack over the gas jets and allows the fat off the food to run into the well all around the base but as every one says it can be difficult to clean, you don't need it otherwise.
We have had one for years and it goes everywhere with us and we also use it at home.
Ah ok thanks. So therefore, if you are not using the bbq bit, you dont need to use the deflector?
Thanks.

We have a Carri-Chef Deluxe which we have owned for the past 3 years. BUT can anyonce help me, I seem to have lost the instructions and have not used the Cadac for a year and cannot for the life of me remember when I use the deflector plate and when I don't need to.
I also use the deflector plate under the roasting tin - spreads the heat more evenly.

Same, used mine according to the instructions, it completely ruined the roast pan, Cadac did replace though.
Look here on my experiments cooking with it.

I was going to leave the BBQ parts but have decided on taking it all, that way I can experiment more?
I don't wish to use for BBQ, may get a disposable one for that.
In fact probably leave skottel behind as paella dish will cope, hoping to document and do loads of pics, may help someone else in the future.

I got a carri chef not long before we came on holiday and have to say its fantastic! We've not used the bbq plate or the wire rack but we have enjoyed full english breakfasts ( if you use the flat side of the grill plate it collects any excess fat, the grid side it drains off into the deflector), a very tasty roast chicken and potatoes done in a Lakeland oval roasting tin and with the lid on, and a couple of very tasty stir frys that are in the booklet that comes with it done in the skottel. We did add a tesco salad bowl when we served up the stir frys though.
I have to say that its a great tool and can see ours getting used at home as well as on holiday.
Does anyone else find it a bit thirsty on gas? We've used almost a full 907 campingaz bottle in a week. Would it be better on anothrr sort?
At the moment we are taking all the parts however I do agree that the skottel does seem a bit pointless and also the BBQ Grill plate? is a pain in the a**e to clean wont be using that again for BBQing. Also I as I have mentioned on another thread the pot stand does not fit our saucepans so have purchased a trivet hopefully that will solve the problem.
