If we're leaving stuff out,we use one of those cork screw dog tethers, fully wound,tight into the ground,and then thread a long cable lock through what ever we want to secure(chair,tables etc)..
..and I just make sure that the cable is threaded in such a way that the tether cannot be unwound(..not without walking everything around in a circle with you! )
It would certainly stop anyone just snatching things away.
(..and if they did manage it,they'd stand out dragging a load of,lashed together,camping kit across a campsite..!)
Used along with Clunty's idea of the bbq/garden furniture cover,it'd be as good as it needs to be...
