I used a gas heater that runs on the same type of gas as suitcase stoves while camping over the New Year weekend.

I was in the big 4-berth Khyam Excelsior XL tent, and had good ventilation. So big and airy that my normal electric fan heater was not sufficient to keep both the bedroom section and the living area warm for me and my dog.

Hence I needed to supplement the fan heater with the gas one.

I stood it on a small table in the living section, making sure it was steady and room around the table to prevent bumping into it, and the dog away from it (he found himself a cosy spot in front of the fan heater in the bedroom).

When I go out for whatever reason, I would switch it off without fail and had never left it unattended for a second while it was running. I would wait for a couple of minutes to make sure it cooled down a bit before venturing out with the dog (never left it to cool with the dog about).

According to the manufacturer's information, mine can be used indoors in well-ventilated area. My late partner used it for heating his wide beam narrow boat while the central heating was warming up after he had been away for a while.

It cost a small fortune due to the safety features etc., however, it was worth the expense IMHO!

I also has a Campingaz Blue Cat heater. Can't remember why I bought it, perhaps I thought it would be safer to use indoors than the Bright Spark one. However, I have yet to take it to go camping with me, as it is quite bulky, and I do not fancy having to carry yet another type of fuel with me.

I personally believe a well-designed gas heater can be used inside a tent, so long as one is sensible about it and takes the necessary precautions.

I did not buy the heater, my late partner stored it in my garage, so I kind of inherited it, along with all the other camping gear he bought!
