What size is that then. It makes good use of space by going over the wheels. Is it braked?

Looks like a good project for winter with plenty of refurbishing to do - good luck.

Cheers

We use a wide track Sankey trailer, my husband wouldn't tow anything else now!

Get a trailer bigger than what you think you'll need!

For years our Erde 102 teeny postage stamp trailer was big enough, but now we have the little un along with us suddenly I'm really stretching the cover over the top of all our gear!  That little trailer has done thousands of miles on camping trips and countless ferrying all sorts of crap/hedge cuttings/cement mixer/double divan bed and mattress(!) here and there.  You don't know its there behind the car, which is either good or bad...  Its easy to store too, I flip it on its back and wheel it into the back garden on a dolly so it won't get tea leafed.

Really the only downside is I just wish it was a bit bigger now!  Get a spare wheel too - you'll regret it if you don't.

Hi all,

We finally get the trailer this weekend, tow bar was fitted Thursday (Westfalia detachable).

Its a Daxara 148 which has internal dimensions of 1.45x1.00x.40, complete with jockey wheel, hitch loack, flat cover, spare wheel and security lock for when unhitched. We decided to buy new as we are going to keep it for, hopefully, decades.

Its basically the same as the Erde 143 but comes standard with shock absorbers which are a user fit accessory on the Erdes.

Towed the 35 miles home from picking it up, first time towing, with no problems empty. Can just see the end of it through the rear view mirror. First attempts at reversing were rubbish as expected. Need to remember the speed and carriageway restrictions when towing!

Best surprise when collecting it was the £100 discount given which we did not know about and a free number plate.

When home the fun part was fitting it upright in the garage which has restricted room as most of it has been partitioned off as the boys playroom. 98 kg takes some lifting and manovering.

Can't wait to use it for real now.

So thanks to everyone for their advice and help.

Cheers

I can't reverse it to save my life but it easy to take off and roll back. (I am not the only person I know who can't do it with such a small trailer)
Reversing any trailer is not that difficult, it takes practice. I agree that reversing a 6 metre long trailer weighing 20 tones is easier that a small camping trailer but the way to learn is to find a large open space like an empty car park and practice.
Take a few empty cardboard boxes and practice reversing between them, practice, practice and more practice and then it becomes easy.
I've towed large trailers, boats, caravans and now tow a small erde and all can be reversed without any problems

We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

The Survivors - congrats, and what good news on the discount! So much easier camping with a trailer - make sure you get a hitch lock though so you can leave it on site whiles on trips out.

Hi Paul. I picked mine up from OMS who are at Easthampnett just 6 miles to the west of Arundel, Sussex. Up your way there are plenty of Sankeys as they all come out of Withams at Grantham who are the people who sell off MOD stuff. Sell to the public too. OMS got mine from Withams, and basically made a £100 on it....but it would have cost me more than that to take day off work and drive there myself.

It's actually in much better condition than the one I posted the pic of. I'm towing it behind a Mitsubishi Delica with the NATO pintle/hitch mounted on a Dixon Bate adjustable tow plate. With this set high it all works good. Certainly wouldn't want to tow it behind something with a low down tow hitch! It's going to make a great trailer for camping.....building a removable lockable lid with everything bought from www.servicemetals.co.uk, and also useful for building materials and work stuff.

Will start another thread shortly as the trailer mods commence!
