I'm a great fan of inflatable pillows, having been using them for about 25 years. Take up no room at all in a pack, and does the job at night. They do a much better job if you use a pillow case for them, this does stop the seam cutting your neck!
Have more recently tried a self inflating pillow - works on the same principal as the self inflating mats. Seems to be ok, although a bit bulkier when packed.
