<!--bmi_SafeAddOnload(bmi_load,"bmi_orig_img",1);//-->from experiance i would say go for the biggest you can store and afford, if you buy too small you may live to regret it, and before long you will be spending more cash in trying to increase its capacity height wise using side extender pannels, but even if you do this, there will be nothing you can do to increase the trailers load capacity, and on other occasions its surprising what you may want to use your trailer for, Even now we have given up tent camping we still use our Daxara 137 with extended side panels to move our daughter around with all her gear whilst shes at uni. I would say big is beautiful in this case, within reason of course, dont want something the size of a horse box on the back lol! Julia

Hi Skiddy, we had the Thule BackUp Box in 2009 which is a similiar concept to the Bak-Rak.
We already had the Thule 902 EuroClassic tow ball mounted bike rack, which the Back Up Box was specifically designed to fit onto to.
Never again though, we went to the Southern Ardeche with the Back Up Box on the back of the firms VW Golf that I drive, it was definitely the wrong car for the Back Up Box, the Golf can only take 75kg on the tow ball, and even though I stuck to that, the steering became vague, and the car never returned to it's full rear height again, obviously that was not helped by having a whole bunch of camping gear in the car.
Needless to say, we sold the Back Up a Box upon return, and that's when we got the Trailer.

I have heard of the problem which can be associated with the rear tyres loading capabilities being exceeded. Even though you say the tow hitch could take 75kg, the Thule rack surely only takes 45kg? Perhaps I'm wrong.
A little diagram with the load maximum in red:

Here is a chart showing the maximum load bearing which of course includes the car but distributed between all 4 tyres.
[/IMG]
Sounds like the cars load capacity was greatly exceeded for it to be vague and not return to its normal height! You'll need to stop buying camping gear!
Our tyres are 110Y rated so massive loads; in addition, our tow-bar nose weight is up to 140kg. Our cars normal weight is 2200kg and can tow 3500kg so the tyres are/should be capable of an additional 130kg on the rear two as in theory, each one can cope with a load of over 1000kg each! We don't anticipate any issues but it is worth chatting to your cars dealer/manufacturer to find out for sure.
We will keep you posted....
