b) the cadac safari chef as someone said it ran on canisters but the images i have seen show big gas bottles so not sure it would be as space saving as I am hoping for,
There are two versions of the Cadac Safari Chef.
The HP (as in High Pressure) uses gas butane/propane mix canisters, and IMHO, not good as a BBQ as I cannot get it to heat up hot enough to function as a BBQ.
The LP ( as in Low Pressure) use gas bottles via a regulator and a lead etc... Allegedly, it functions better as a BBQ than the HP with the right gas (propane I believe). The smallest gas bottle is quite dinky, and I may consider replacing my HP with a LP eventually. This way I can use it in France etc. where charcoal BBQ is banned.
The HP cannot be transformed into a LP, as I have yet to find a suitable adaptor for it.
Much as I like my Cadac Safari Chef HP, I still like to BBQ using charcoal. Probably something to do with setting things on fire and the smell of burnt flesh and marinades.
