The ppl who get het up about flag poles should try camping next to someone with a wind chime fetish as I did once. I felt like sneaking out with a pair of sharp scissors in the night! I can only think they must have been hard of hearing.
LOL now that deserves moaning about.....inconsiderate hippys grrrr....

What do you need a flagpole for?
Kids are not that stupid they dont know where they are staying!
I personally find flag poles a ridiculous addition to a camping pitch!
I have the flag but no flag pole at the moment. I do want to get one (though nothing too big just big enough to get the flag flying) though. The reason that I want this flag flyiong is that I bought it from this site. It has the ukcampsite logo all over it, this is so that when we do camp the good folks on here will know that and would be welcome to come over and chat have a drink etc.
I wanted to get some hats but they have sold out. The T shirts are too small for me, so flag it was.
I found out once I got back from a camp and added a review to the campsite that I had actually been chatting to a fellow member whilst washing the pots.
I also have other flags but we've not been able to fly them properly when camping, as no pole.
The reason we have flags is that during the school holidays we theme our weeks. So we put up bunting and falgs which are relevent to the theme we are using for that week, eg union jack for a WW2 themed week, a pirate flag for a pirate week, football bunting for sports week, racing flags for transport week.
So it doesn't have to be so that the kids can find their way to the tent. There can be a number of reasons why people have them.

I have been very tempted to take one of mine with me. I have some at home and I can hear them at night and I find them quite relaxing to listen to whilst I am drifting off. I shall now have to control that temptation and not take them.
Some rallies have banned flag poles due to the fact that they are a hazard as one collapsed a couple of years ago and hit their neighbouring caravan causing some minor damage. They had difficulty claiming on the third party insurance as the flag pole was deemed as a modification and not included in the policy so I don't know exactly what the outcome was. After all, a flag pole serves no particular purpose whatsoever and I see it as nothing more than an advertising gimmick just like people have personalised registration plates on their vehicle.
But it's a bit like a conversation though, isn't it. Someone says something and everyone else gives their opinion.
It's liable to go slightly off topic sometimes.

Yep your right, but how are you going to find a helpful hand without one of these.
to each their own
------------- Yesterday is already a dream and tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Now although I'm not a lover of flag poles myself as previously mentioned, somehow I do like the look of the one above and it serves a purpose of recognition to everyone who uses this site.
