I have just bought myself the Outwell 24l cooler.  Hav'nt used it as yet for camping, but tried it out, very quiet so far.

I have an Outwell 24l coolbox. I think the fan is quite noisy. The night before I go I chill it down using 240v and in the morning fill it then its on 12v in the car to the campsite. I dont hear it in the car but when it is in the back bedroom it would be audible if my own bedroom door was open. I dont use EHU so when i get to the campsite I find that it is good for a day or 2 then it needs a run in the car to chill it down again. I have had milk in it and lasted for 5 days before it went off. I didnt use beef sausages after the 3rd day tho!

Its not too bad a unit but it definately has limitations and to be honest I am considering replacing it for next summer with a 3 way "proper" camping fridge.

I would never run it from the car battery without the engine running so my question to those that know about such things is this - If I clamp, tape or just hold a section of plastic flexible air ducting against an air vent in the car and turn the aircon on full blast then direct the other end into the coolbox, would it chill it down enough? There are days I dont want to take the car out for a run!

I second what bob61 has said about the fan bearings. Bearings in low voltage fans don't stay lubricated for ever and when they get dry you get noise and poor performance from the fan.

It is possible to re-lube electric coolbox fan bearings very easily with vasoline or such like if you can manage to undo 4-6 screws with a screwdriver. Fan motors run so much smooter/quieter/quicker when looked after.

Failing this you can go out and spend your hard earned on a brand new coolbox because it's become a bit noisy.
