I have a Crusader EHU from Go Outdoors. We are off to France in August. Can I just plug it in or does it need some kind of converter / adapter. I have read threads about polarity inversion and earthing problems, all a bit confusing, but can someone recommend a converter plug if I do actually need one. Can't see anything like this in Go Outdoors!

Thanks.

you may need one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EUROPEAN-CONTINENTAL-CARAVAN-MAINS-HOOK-UP-ADAPTOR-LEAD-SITE-PLUG-COUPLER-/370593110188?pt=UK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories&hash=item56491218ac or you may not as alot of french sites have gone over to what we use.

and this guy has made up a lead to deal with the polarity inversion problem, and you get the tester aswell.to be honest it's an easy thing to make, but if your not handy.

Hi, Could someone help me please. I am looking to use EHU for the first time & not sure what one to buy, What I can & can't use etc.. I am going to Thorpe Park & will be sleeping in a tent.

I have seen Crusader Products Mobile Mains Kit (20 metre cable):                             A superb quality, deluxe 3 gang 13A mobile mains unit for full electrical protection in awnings, trailer tents or tents.
The unit has a 10 Amp double pole MCB and 25 Amp RCD protection, and comes complete with a 20 metre cable extension fitted with a blue 240v site plug, and pole fitting clips.
could I use this at Thorpe park? Could I also use it for my hair straighteners, hair dryer & George foreman? My hair straighteners & hair dryer are both a 13amp fuse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks :)

Every piece of electrical equipment has a rating. The problem is that some list the power requirement as 60W or 180W or even 2400W others list the power as 4.7A on the bottom..

The only thing which is constant in the UK is the voltage, and that works out at about 220 to 230 volts depending upon supplier, but its ok with that variance.

The calculation is P = IV (sorry for the physics)
Where
P = power (or Wattage for the old term)
I = current (or Amperage for the old term)
V = voltage (or 230V in the examples below)

You have on camp sites 6A, 10A, or 16A worth of allowance dependant on the site.

So if you have a 200W power device,
That would be 200W = I x 230V We need to find the I.

You do that by tranfering the V to the other side of the equals sign which swaps the x to a / (divide)

Wattage / 230 V = I (or the Amps)

So 200W / 230V = I or 0.87A

A laptop at 165W would be 165/230 = 0.71A
A heater at 2000W would be 2000/230 = 8.69A

All you need to do is add up all the Amps you are using, and not exceed the camp sites allowance.
