I wonder how many people claim to hate sleeping bags due to feeling claustrophobic, due to having tried mummy style sleeping bags?
We use two Hamptons zipped together to make a huge double which is just like sleeping under (and over) a very soft quilt, but still allows me to put my feet out and the wife to not even notice if I get up in the night.
These things are like a folded over double quilt with a zip
I have an extra wide Vango bag with a fleece liner. I use it inside out because I can't stand the way it grabs me during the warmer camping nights. When it gets cold, (winter camping) I either use it with a duvet on top or just use a duvet, depending on how cold it is.
Canvas tent, and never had it feel damp.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
cos I am a lardy I have a double sleeping bag because I HATE restrictions... being a 70's child and being tucked up in bed with feet pinned down pointing and not enough room to even move my arms lmao! However, my cheapo double has two zips so they can be joined together, making feet escape holes... BLISS

August Whitefield Forest IOW.... excited!!!!!
We love Woodbridge Inn Pewsey! Its our best yet!
Still rather new to this camping lark!
We have cotton sleeping bags that we bought very cheaply from Dunelm when we first started camping about 6 years ago and they are fab, really warm. They're not mummy style, just the normal type, but I don't like being zipped in, so, sleeping bag open, but tucked under my airbed at one side and hanging down over the campbed at the other, tucked in at the bottom, all nice and snug

Last time I posted on the subject of sleeping, it was to say I use my king size duvet off my bed, and I wouldn't be parting with it.
However. While we were away last week I had the opportunity to buy a 3 season XL Gelert Pod for £15. At that price I decided to give it a go and was very very pleasantly surprised. I was warm and cosy, and not at all restricted in movement. No tangling when I turned, I was really comfy.
So I'm a convert to the right sleeping bag and my duvet can stay at home!
we are duvets but I have to admit if I got the chance of a pod at £15 I would be jumping all over it too. Well done whiskydry - must be the bargain of the week!

August 2013, 14, 15, 16 & 17-Trevornick for two and a half weeks of sea and surf (and ever optimistic -lots of sun). Some other weekends if I can persuade DH
I started off with a rectangular duck feather/down 2 season sleeping bag, and did not like the feel of restriction, so I opened it up and used it as a duvet instead.
I now have a double all season duck feather/down duvet all to myself and it is bliss!
So far I only need to use the thicker duvet out of the pair, along with 2 fleece throws. This way, if I get too hot, I just need to pull off the throws one by one.

Sorry, but duvet every time for me. Can't get on with a sleeping bag - I'm a restless sleeper and have feet like hotcakes!! Most be able to poke lower leg out of bedding at all times or I just can't sleep.
I am the same cannot bear to have feet pegged in at the side or bottom.
Two single airbeds on top of campbeds (so if OH gets up in night I dont go up and down(why do men pee so much on hols)), double size fleecie topper ( I hate hate feel of the flock tops) and a double fitted sheet to keep the whole of the kit together and our 8 tog duck down duvet, that might make the difference in dampness not sure(feather not synthetic), but as warm as toast.
But we also take 2 cheap sleeping bags Monty our dog has one on top of his bed and if it gets chilly we have a spare to use just in case.
We take a Queen size Tempur 255 mm matress with a Queensize 16 tog duckdown duvet, a very comfy combination, keeps us snug all night. Just as well as there's no room for the tent! As for our dog, Montana, a canadian Lab.last week the vet walked out of the surgery with the dog in his arms and told us he would have to put him down, he was to heavy for him.!
we've always used sleeping bags in the past, but this weekend we test drove our new weekender tent and instead of taking sleeping bags we took four quishions...when unzipped we ended up with two 4 TOG quilts each (8 TOG total per person) and i have to say it was lovely...the fabric covers are wonderfully soft and even tho the quilts feel featherlight they are exceptionally warm...i think we're going to be sticking with the quishions from now on...
