We do chicken but don't bother putting it breast side down, just the 'normal' way up! It's nice rubbed with some garlic, butter and lemon juice and wine in the moat.

I have struggled using briquettes - I am never sure when to put the food on. last time i used them, the flame went down and they were grey underneath, but still black on top. Is that OK to cook on them then, or do they need to be grey all over?

I used mine for the first time last week. I roasted chicken thighs marinated in pesto (delicious) and baked potatoes.

I used Cobblestones but I was not impresed with their heat output - the potatoes took an age, much longer than they should have. So next time I will stick to heat beads.

Having said that, the COBB brought a completely new dimension to camp cooking and I look forward to using it for years to come. One of my better buys.

The chicken was breast side down to start with and then turned over for the last 45 mins. Rubbed with a secret concoction too.

One thing to consider is making sure the meat is at room temperature when you start cooking so the Cobb doesn't have to warm it up.

Quite simply the more I use it the better I like it...

Our 1st go with our new Cobb a few weeks ago was a failure :-( We used penbeads, gave them 20-30 minutes to get going, they looked OK, lots of gray with red edges. We didn't peek at the chicken, so 2 hours later we were disappointed to find the penbeads had gone out and the checken wasn't done. Luckily it was an at home test. We're trying again tomorrow.

Where is everyone finding heatbeads?

We have cooked pizza on the cobb. Firstly, we cover the roasting rack with foil to stop the base from cooking and burning. A large Pizza Express pizza was too large to cook all at once so we cut it into pieces and cooked in batches.

thanks everyone - much appreciate the tips. Had an invite out for dinner yesterday and going to the inlaws today so not got a chance to use it yet but will hopefully get some bits tomorrow and give it a go!

We got all our heatbeads and cobblestones from here Probably paid over the odds but everywhere else I tried was out of stock and I wanted to make sure we had some for camping in a couple of weeks!

Have cooked shop bought chilled and frozen pizza on my Cobb,both were perfect. I would advise putting pizza on for about 3 mins and giving a quarter turn to prevent sticking. Great if you add a few extra toppings of your own!
Using a Cobb is a learning experience so stick with it. I have had mine five years and would not go away without it.
